Voodoo Scrounge Anyone here a fan. Are they as popular in the US as they are here in the UK.

I really like them and think their comical rock is refreshing
December 15th, 2005 01:01 PM
glencar No, they haven't become very popular.
December 15th, 2005 01:01 PM

Voodoo Scrounge I would reccomend that if you enjoy good, fun lovin rock and roll music with a twist of falsetto, then you download some of their tunes.

Most popular are

Growing on me
I believe in a thing called love
Love is only a feeling
Giving up giving up
One Way ticket to hell and back

You just like Springstein because he's a Jew!

The Darkness blow, imo. I hate the bands they're imitating - why would I like them?
December 15th, 2005 04:03 PM
glencar The Darkness's bassist is name Hymie Shulevitz...
December 15th, 2005 04:04 PM
Nellcote FPM.
It's a challenge to find listenable music in the
landmine of trash out there.
Follow my drift here a moment...

I liken this matter to my 1st hearing the Stones back in the 60's, reading that they paid homage to early blues greats see Muddy, Wolf, Elmore, etc.
Then I got into those greats.
Swung back to early 70's British Rock,
threw a dose of Aerosmith (played at my HS, rehearsed two towns away), then Foghat, J Geils, WHO, Zep.
Next up, detour down south for Skynyrd (who at the time were bigger than the WHO in some circles), Allmans, etc.
Back to the UK for Glam~Queen, Mott, Bowie.
Back to Mississippi Fred, Chuck Berry, Bronzy, Eddie Burns..
Then to Thorogood (on Rounder label)....and on and on...

You get this path...

So, IMO, a band like the Darkness, who glean themselves from the Queen/Sweet/T Rex/Bolan/Mott pedigree is a natural.
A bit preachy, but, still reincarnate of the real deal, now that the real deal is gone, or in the case of Queen, redone with Paul Rodgers, which, IMO takes getting used to..

I enjoy making these type of finds every now and then.
In some cases, they do not hold up to the original, however, I would like to think it would make the original type of band proud...

Sir Stonesalot >The Darkness blow, imo. I hate the bands they're imitating - why would I like them?<

I'm with you 110% Flea.

I don't mind bands like Jet or Franz Ferdinand because I like the bands that they are trying to emulate.

But why would a band want to emulate horseshit? If that is what they were shooting for, then they are doing a heckuva job. Are they trying to be funny? If so that is just stupid. Why would you want your band to be considered a joke?

On the other hand, they make big piles of money. So I guess they know that there are lots of people out there willing to spend money on horseshit. Good for them I suppose.

They will not be getting any of MY money though...

LOL..does Bruce know he is?

The Darkness - something's telling me its one big Spinal Tap piss-take. They were mildly amusing for about five minutes a couple of years ago, musically is another matter

And I think the stereotype of British dentistry is bad enough without Justin Hawkins adding to it even more...

The Dickies are a joke AND one of the greatest bands of all time. Not that the Darkness can come anywhere close to that...

I saw them once, it was a fun show, they were amusing, the band was tight. I liked opening band the Wildhearts better and sincerely thank the Darkness for bringing them over for their first and only U.S. tour ever.

Probably not! But I'm SURE I saw his name on a "jew list" somewhere.

Apropos of nothing except greatness, I just got FRONT ROW seats to see Ralph Stanley in April.
