stone jr. On Dec.8,1980, John Lennon, former Beatle, was shot to death by Mark David Champman(sorry for spelling) Today, we celebrate 22 years after his death. We're thinking of you John!

Jacques RIP
we think to you John and all good friends on the other side. You were a genius. Have nice time where you are.

Martha Today is one of the saddest days of the year for me. I never make it through without crying.

I spend it listening to John's music...I wear black and I stay in prayer as much as I can.

John's death affected me more than any other single event to date has. It had (and still has) a profound impact on my life and, in fact, changed me and the direction of my life..for the better.

I am forever indebted to John and Yoko for the valiant and courageous ways they promoted peace in spite of the hatred, ridicule and ugliness they often got in return. By their example of campaigning for and promoting peace and love, they inadvertently shined a light on the racist and sexist attitudes imbedded in our society. Their brave example helped me to define what I, up until then, could only feel and helped me to reach out beyond the ugliness inherent in racist, sexist ideology and see the light and the love....it is there.

So today, I send out many prayers for peace on earth on this very sad anniversary, in John's honor...I know he would be very active in his peace efforts if he were still with us today...especially today.

Please take a moment to pray for peace in John's memory....and for the human race.

Blessings and peace to all.
Martha

corgi37 i couldnt give a rats ass about Yoko's house husband. he spent the 70' whingeing, whining, locked in his room, bagging the stones, bagging everybody, talking bullshit about the poor and the downtrodden, but still revelled in all his riches. He reminds me of Paul Hewson actually. Aww, i dont want to be too harsh, but really, double fantasy has got to be the weakest record released. Think about it. He hid away for so many years, did what yoko told him, and released a bland, boring, wimpy record, at the height of punk. Dedicates a song to his boy, but refused all contact with his other one. Told people to forget his years in the band he came to hate, but still took all the royalties. Dont forget double fantasy was a flop until he died. And just what is it with those beatle guys that they have to have their old ladies on stage with them? Then theres the glasses, dont start me on them. The only really important date in December is the celebration of the birth of the real God. Thats right, December 18 - Keef's birthday. hyuk-hyuk.

steel driving hammer I do give a rats ass!

steel driving hammer You know, being the most respected rock'n'roll band that ever existed must have been a difficult gig. Not only were they constantly tortured by the self knowledge that they were actually crap, but the Beatles also had to suffer from their words being taken literally. Just as Elvis Presley has The Church Of The Latter Day Elvis, there are two factions of a Beatles religion fighting a fatwa (or Ringo - aka The Fat One) over the one true Beatles Religion. Much like the heresy of Protestantism there is merely one schism which separates the two creeds, who would otherwise be joined in their belief that All You Need Is Love (pacifists), that Tomorrow Never Knows (anti-determinists) and Baby, They Can Drive My Car (thieving Scouse bastards). Even as we speak people are dying in this cause to show that theirs is the true way, light and that Octopus's Garden is actually a metaphor and not a pile of nursery rhyme wank. Let us examine the case:

IN THE RED CORNER: The One True Church Of The Beatles And All Their Solo Projects (except Ringo's All Star Band). A blend of Catholicism and hippy George Harrison shite - the One True Church believes in the sanctity of stable marriages and therefore tends to favour the work of Paul McCartney. As such eating meat is frowned upon, and a firm belief in Yesterday is encouraged. Scrambled Eggs are also big on the menu. The main tenets are Letting It Be, attaining the nine major Revolutions and saying Hey to people called Jude. Heretical belief: "Money cannot buy you love". (cf Lines 5, 12,13,14,,18,19,20 - Can't Buy me Love).

IN THE BLUE CORNER: Seventh Day Rubber Soul Adventist. Favour the solo projects of John Lennon, and hence believe in Instant Karma - not just as a really bad album but as a guide to enlightenment. Stay in bed a lot. Also firm belief that the Taxman is trying to tax their feet and hence keep all their money in a big brown bag inside the zoo. Therefore easy to steal from. Heal belief: "Fun is the one thing that money can't buy". (cf Lines 8,22 - She's Leaving Home / Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band).

So what is it the truth? Can money not buy love as well as fun. The Rubber Soulers use the quite good argument that She's Leaving Home was recorded after Can't Buy me Love and therefore shows the ineffable band revising their previous views. The First Church however have a stronger line that is it patently untrue that money cannot buy fun. If it couldn't then why would there be so many multinationals making movies, videos and porn to keep people entertained? Also they point out that Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is a rubbish old piece of vaudeville dressed up as a concept album.

In the meantime, while the remaining Beatles keep schtum sectarian killings are still going on in Liverpool. Perhaps we would would have been better off if the Beatles had never existed. No perhaps about it.

Are we REALLY supposed to believe that YOU wrote this? Hey, I'm your C10 Brother here. I DO believe, sadly, that you wrote "Fuck the Bealtes" because you spelled it wrong, and also "Fuck the Islam" because of your support of the arrogant ignoramus who is running the country full speed into a wall. However, despite the numerous mistakes in the above post ("Instant Karma" was a single, not an album, fer instance), I would bet dollars to donuts that you didn't write it. "No perhaps about it."

Hey, what happened to the post where you promised MSG tickets to the two twats, er, I mean twits, above? Afraid you'll be held culpable for your rash words? Shit, I'd gladly say horrendous things for one of those ducats! Whose grave would you like me to dance on? Mahatma Ghandi? Bobby Kennedy? Frank Sinatra?

Child of the Moon With the exceptions of most of the people on here, against whom I have nothing (you know who you are), fuck this board.

No, that's too harsh. Rather, fuck the people who are insensitive enough to post bullshit like "Lennon was a jealous prick." That is just fucking sad. You people are blinded by something, perhaps (dare I say it) a blind love for the Stones and nothing else, and anyone else who happens to be inspired by something else... well, to hell with them, right? That's pretty sad.

I said what I had to over at Gas x3. Maybe I should start saying more there, now that I think about it.
12-09-02 10:57 PM
Jaxx i remember this day so clearly for more than one reason. we had a candle eulogy for john at CSU that evening. that sad day, however has now become a footnote since it is also my son's birthday.
12-10-02 02:03 AM
Moonisup I stick with my words, It is my opinion.

I find it's sad that he was shot to death, I know what he meant for todays music, but still I find him a prick.
The only beatle I liked is George, for his music and for his belief in the Hare Krisna.
12-10-02 08:24 AM
corgi37 i'm with moon. lennon was a fucking hypocrite. He became such a good little house boy from mid 70's on so he wouldnt get kicked out of the U.S. And like i wrote, Mr. Imagine, love and peace for all, ignored 1 kid completely, yet wrote love songs for his other one. Maybe cause the other one looks like his stupid wife, i dunno. The guy lost his nerve. Why spend 5 years in a bedroom then? Dont even try to say "double fantasy" is anything more that pitiful shit. He sneered at the stones, particularly jagger's stage antics, from 69 onwards, yet was 1 of 4 gutless pricks who were too scared to tour since 66-67. Dont forget mccartney himself said the stones should give touring away back in 89. And just why did he have to inflict Yoko's "singing" on the world? I didnt see bianca or anita singing harmonies on stage during any stones tour! People can like him, and can post lovely thoughts on a stone site about him, but at the same time, i can bag the bastard if i want to as well. We still live in the free speech side of the world, for now. Peace!
12-10-02 10:26 AM
jb No FPM..you seemed upset about the Beatle bashing, so I didn't want to add to it, although my post was unobjectionable...As far as tickets, i have offered several people free tickets , but unfortunately, these people are out of the states and can't make it.

Good. I'm glad you stick to your words... unlike some...

And yeah, I didn't like Lennon as a person all the time either. But he did have tremendous courage to stand up for what he believed in when he faced deportation and worse. And I didn't always agree with what he believed in, either - I think he was the last vestage of the 60s mentality that peace was possible.

But he and the band he was in in the 60s had such a huge impact on the world of music and on the socio-political scheme that his death was quite simply one of the most shocking and terrifying events in world history. Proving that no matter how good of a guy you were, there would always be someone willing to kill you.

Read that guy's story who ran the Lake Side Farm or whatever - he told the people skulking around wanting to see the Stones the same thing. No one was safe anymore. It was a terrible event.

It's nice, though, that you honestly stick by your belief and give good explination rather than just degenerating into a flame-baste.

To those of you who did... screw you. At least be civil about why you don't like 'im. I agree, Double Fantasy's not a strong album. Neither is Imagine, or Plastic Ono Band, or Mind Games... hell, Lennon didn't release one 'great' album his entire solo carreer. The other three Beatles all did. George did All Things Must Pass, Paul did Band On The Run, Ringo did his self-titled album. Lennon did nothing.

But you know what? He still did some great songs, with the Beatles and solo, and he still was a huge figure in the world. So screw you, flamers. At least take the time to think it over and discuss it rationally before going off.

-tSYX --- Baaaaand on the run...

jb Good job Rik....don't be intimidated or threatened by the Beatle lovers.
12-10-02 02:26 PM
HardKnoxDurtySox Savage,
With all do respect, I beg to differ when it comes to Lennon's solo career. I will take Plastic Ono over any Beatle solo album. McCartney made a few great records but he was always a bit too poppy. "All things" is good but is way over-produced.
Also, i think that the "only" thing that brings "Double Fantasy" down is Yoko's 7 songs. If you just don't listen to them, you have a very strong record.

"I don't believe in Hitler"

Oh well....Mohandas Gandhi too. Jesus of Nazareth, uh there's three. Pacifism is not too popular nowadays...never was really. Oh and General Smedley Butler.
12-10-02 03:44 PM
Moonisup Well, if he was a beggar and was stabbed to death no one would have cared

If it is John lennon, ore anyone, if anyone dies by violence it is sad, John L ain't a better person then some one who lives on the street and gets stabbed,
that is mo
