moy Marianne Faithfull cancels European tour
LONDON (AP) — Marianne Faithfull has canceled a European tour after collapsing before a show in Italy last week, her management said Tuesday.

Faithfull, 57, collapsed shortly before she was to go onstage in Milan last Wednesday.
RCA/ Victor

A spokesman said doctors told the singer that she has chronic exhaustion and ordered her to rest for three months.

Faithfull, 57, had been due to perform in cities including London; Glasgow, Scotland; Dublin, Ireland; Barcelona, Spain; Amsterdam, Netherlands; and Vienna, Austria. She collapsed shortly before she was to go onstage in Milan last Wednesday.

"I'm sorry to have let my fans down but I will be back," Faithfull said in a statement.

A spokesman said Faithfull planned to reschedule the dates for next year.

Faithfull gained fame in the '60s as the girlfriend of rocker Mick Jagger and as the pure-voiced singer of As Tears Go By. After battling drug addiction, she re-emerged in 1979 with the raw album Broken English and has since found a new audience as a sophisticated chanteuse.

Last summer she starred in Robert Wilson's play The Black Rider in London and San Francisco.

Give the woman some credit, Max. At least she's consistently putting out new product, some critically acclaimed I might add, and touring.

Marianne...you GO girl. Get some rest and get well.

Interesting? Yeah I'll give you that.

But then again, I saw something interesting in the bowl this morning after a night of drinking but I'm not going to tour Europe with it.

Well, it's useless to start comparing and contrasting. But remember Maxy, you were asking for it

Marianne imo, has managed to survive in the best possible way the sixties and falling for the Stones. I've always thought they way she was treated, in particular by Mick, was not right at all, and she's been always kind towards him in interviews, etc. But ok, let's not get into the personal stuff.

On a pure musical level though, not only has she managed to create works that are always interesting and beautiful, but music you can actually LISTEN to, as opposed to, say, Goddess in the doorway which just springs to mind. She has also managed to stay more relevant and less nostalgic, both on her own and with her collaborations with PJ Harvey amongst others - unlike an example that also springs to mind and has to do with Lenny Kravitz and co...

I'm not bashing Mick here, what I'm trying to say is that Marianne still makes wonderful music, respects her audience and stays true to what she believes instead of trying to follow the trends. And all that should get her some respect, don't you think Maxy?
