While we're on the topic of really fantastic Aussie bands,
how about "YOU AM I" ?? For those of you who are unfortunate to live outside of Australia, there's this really wicked rock and roll band, fronted by Tim Rodgers. The band, I'd say, is a cross between Black Crowes / Cream and classic Stones... catchy riffs and one-liners.. great live act. Infact, I think they may have opened for the Stones in recent years.
cheers

They also supported the Who recently. I'd never seen them live before, and by God, they were fantastic! My niece is going out with the bass player. You'd think old Uncle Corgi would get a back-stage pass, but noooooooooo. No doubt my Uncle did, and i will hear all about it at Christmas.
Tim Rodgers is a Who/Stones tragic. His fave all-time song is JJFLash and he copies Towneshends windmill action.
Sadly, they are a bit too old and ugly now. They would be the original exponents of the recent rock and roll re-birth. They were years ahead of Vines, Hives, white stripes and all them.
Every cd they released entered #1 here in the charts.
THey no longer have a record deal i believe. Bit sad, really. |

Yeah, they are brilliant in concert, and Tim Rogers does tend to walk around like a funky chicken, jagger-wanna-be.
But all kidding aside, their musicianship, riffs, bridges and grooves have bragging rights and quite notorious. There's this little riffy thing in "What they do at night" and it just sends me. Purple Sneakers, Cathy's Clown, and ofcourse, the Applecross Wing Commander totally rocks!!!!!
Corgi, I think you're in Melbourne - next time YOUAMI come your way, please go and see them. They totally live up to their reputation.
Cheers mate. |
