GotToRollMe Okay, we all know that Mick has never exactly been the King Of Enunciation, especially in the '60s-'80s. To this day, whenever I hear "Paint It Black," I always hear the first line as "I see a rickshaw and I want it painted black." (I had no idea why he wanted to paint a rickshaw black, and when I finally found out the real lyric, it didn't make much of a difference.) This is just one of many Stones lyrics that I went for years mis-hearing until I finally found out the real lyrics.

What are your most frequently mis-heard Stones lyrics?

More recently, from "Rain Fall Down":
"She took me in her room, I was bakin' Spam..."

killerbitch One of the really first misunderstood lines was from "Satisfaction" about
making the girl pregnant, which shocked a whole lot of people who did
not realize that was NOT what Mick was saying.

I would like to hear more misunderstood Stones songs if this thread should
continue, I bet some are funny cos Mick don't like you said enounciate.

CraigP You were a fuji
a sweet sweet fuji
a sweet sweet fuji but stone stone cold.

Yeah, the studio version sounded a bit confusing for a while. I'm now assuming he's saying 'beauty' instead of 'fuji'.

My dumb cousin thought Start Me Up was R-E-O?

In Miss You when I was a kid I used to think when Mick was talking about the Puerto Rican chics his buddy was gonna bring over at 12 that were "dyin to meet you".

I used to think Mick said "Flyyyyyyy Torpedo"! Honest

MrPleasant "Streets Of Love". I mis-heard the entire thing and thought it was atrocious, but then I realized...

Paranoid_Android I CANNOT...WON'T believe that no one has a JJF story!!!
10th December 2006 08:21 PM

Haha! I actually thought the same thing. I also thought he said, "don't you know the jews are still wild" instead of "You know you know the duece is still wild."

Bruno In Casino Boogie, I never know if he says "PROTEST music" or "GROTESQUE music"
11th December 2006 12:12 AM
Zack Heart of Stone:

"I hate that kind of meat."
11th December 2006 12:21 AM
Throwaway Saw you "stressed" or "stretched" out in room 109 (shine a light)

Sad, Sad, Sad, but you're goin behind

11th December 2006 12:48 AM
Altamont "I can't resist a conga line"

Let It Loose

It's so absurd but I remember hearing that ages ago,. and now i kinda wish it was the lyric.

11th December 2006 03:21 AM
Ronnie Richards In Casino Boogie I thought Mick sang "kissing vagina in Cannes"...

TampabayStone Satisfaction:
Baby Baby come back, baby make sweet, because you see I'm on a new retreat.

I thought that this was the lyric from about the 8th grade until I was 25 or so.

Beast of Burden:
Suck a duck.
11th December 2006 10:49 AM
Stargroves Rocks Off:

"I'm always hearing horses in the street" ?? Don't know why I heard this

and I was also confused by "I was making love last night, with a distant friend of mine", though I'm not sure the dancer makes a lot more sense...
11th December 2006 11:04 AM
Saint Sway I also misheard the opening lyrics of SFM...

used to think he said: "everywhere I look around theres martians in the street boys"

and in Stray Cat Blues I thought "it aint no hanging matter" was "there aint no twang in my guitar"
11th December 2006 11:15 AM
GotToRollMe I thought he was sayin', "Ain't no hangin' on my time."
11th December 2006 11:38 AM
CraigP I'm with ya on that, Tampabay:

"All the sickness, I could SUCK A DUCK."
11th December 2006 12:21 PM
Stonesthrow Ok, you want JJF? How about "I was schooled with a strap right across my bag" instead of back? After all, it does rhyme with toothless bearded hag. That would give the song an altogether different connotation. Sorta like Casino Royale.

Mel Belli * I'm slipping through the days that lie in speed

* Don't need you choosing my crown

* And there's 20,000 rebels ... who with their die red-stained fangs

* then parades of grace to the rafters ...

Oh, I could go on and on and on. ...

GotToRollMe Yeah, the Stones have to be the most lyrically misunderstood band of all time. By the way, TBS and CraigP, you're not the only ones who heard "suck a duck." I thought that was the lyric for years!
11th December 2006 02:29 PM
texile suck a duck!

I though it was "no hanging in my drawers"

killerbitch baby, baby make sweet I'm on a losing streak. Those are real lyrics I think.
That was the part that somehow got REALLY misunderstood about the
pregnant girl, making some girl pregnant that was it.
