Caught Mr. Keen earlier this month, a Texas treasure!
Merry Christmas from the Family-Robert Earl Keen
Mom got drunk and Dad got drunk at our Christmas party
We were drinking champagne punch and homemade eggnog
Little sister brought her new boyfriend
He was a Mexican
We didn't know what to think of him until he sang
Felis Navidad, Felis Navidad
Brother Ken brought his kids with him
The three from his first wife Lynn
And the two identical twins from his second wife Mary Nell
Of course he brought his new wife Kay
Who talks all about AA
Chain smoking while the stereo plays Noel, Noel
The First Noel
Carve the Turkey
Turn the ball game on
Mix margaritas when the eggnog's gone
Send somebody to the Quickpak Store
We need some ice and an extension chord
A can of bean dip and some Diet Rites
A box of tampons, Marlboro Lights
Haleluja everybody say Cheese
Merry Christmas from the family
Fred and Rita drove from Harlingen
I can't remember how I'm kin to them
But when they tried to plug their motor home in
They blew our Christmas lights
Cousin David knew just what went wrong
So we all waited out on our front lawn
He threw a breaker and the lights came on
And we sang Silent Night, Oh Silent Night, Oh Holy Night
Carve the turkey turn the ball game on
Make Bloody Mary's
Cause We All Want One!
Send somebody to the Stop 'N Go
We need some celery and a can of fake snow
A bag of lemons and some Diet Sprites
A box of tampons, some Salem Lights
Haleluja, everybody say cheese
Merry Christmas from the Family

Waits interview on Letterman the other night - dude is intelligent and funny as hell - reminds me of brother in law who busted up cars and moved to Europe and stuff. Part I.

More Waits on Letterman - one of the most entertaining Letterman's I've ever seen. Either that or I couldn't sleep.
Anyway, this song is fucked up.

Haha! Dude, I watched that vid many times, but never posted it for fear of making everyone laugh at my love of Lizzy. But, yes that is his daughter. At least an MTV DJ told me it was like 20+ years ago.

Awesome find - the man rocked.
Here's a unique acoustic Womack - put the groove on an otherwise lame ass song, then got all Street, pusher, junkies, pimps all that good stuff.

God I love You Tube. This is a great thread too because I find so many things to start exploring in depth. Usually it's someone I know about just never had the time to hear more. I love the Waits stuff and have been purchasing a few things after seeing those vids - and yes I love Thin Lizzy.
When my parents were just married they used to see Ike and Tina perform in the old gas lamp (or was it gas light) district in St. Louis. I can only imagine being in a club and seeing something like this:

You're the best Nellie, the Pats barely deserve you. We did all the acute Womack we could for this little slice of time we are allowed, there are a few more, but here is one for the uninitiated - its a frame of reference type sitch dealie:

Wait, sorry man, didn't catch that Q - that was Across(t) 110th Street - Super fine soul! Made semi-re-emergence to whitey in Jackie Brown.
One of the greatest fucking ghetto tunes ever - no embellishment, no whimsicalness, no whining, no superiority, no projection, all real.
