Robert Plant Voted Greatest Metal Vocalist Of All Time
Led Zeppelin man honoured...
by Scott Colothan on 07/12/2006
gigwise.com
Led Zeppelins Robert Plant has been voted the greatest metal vocalist of all time in a new poll.
Conducted by Hit Parader, Plant was voted ahead of the likes of Judas Priests Rob Halford (number two), Aerosmiths Steve Tyler (three) and Freddie Mercury
Interestingly, Kurt Cobain only came in at 20 and Mick Jagger failed to make the top ten only coming in at 15. While, prick Justin Hawkins came in at 88.
Proving that the polls genre classification is very flawed, the likes of Rod Stewart and David Bowie also polled.

If MJ at #15 wasn't enough to show howe foolish your latest poll is, Mr. Quiet Riot at #99 is proof positive. |

I think it would be great if Mick did a metal album someday. Maybe he can guest on the next Tony Iommi solo album. But for number one I would have to go with Bruce Dickinson followed by Rob Halford. |

I'd rather see Mick team up with Will Ferrel as Robert Goiulette(sp?) in an SNL skit!!! lol
Come on, Mick along with certain others don't belong on a 'metal' singer list. And as big a fan as I am of Led Zep, Plant can't be #1 simply because he lost most of his 'trademark' voice back in the early 80's. It's got to be someone who really started up early in the genre and is still singing well today or not too long ago at least. My vote would have to be Geoff Tate of Queensryche. You don't get any better than him as a metal singer. He sounds just as good if not better (seasoned) today than he did in the early eighties when heavy metal was REAL METAL at it's prime...
But as always, IMO, the distorted electric guitar along with heavy metal primarily come from rock 'n roll. And the Rolling Stones remain the biggest influence in tasteful heavy riffing of the ROCK!!!
THE BEST METAL BANDS IN THE WORLD ALL HAVE A distinct TASTE OF RYTHYM SUCH AS METALLICA, PANTERA, QUEENSRYCHE, OZZY & ZAKK, DEF LEPPARD, ETC. |

That's fuckin' retarded.
Any list of "Metal" "Singers" that does not have Lemmy in the top 5 is just a stinkin' pile of shit.

well as neither of them could be remotely regarded as 'heavy metal singers' it says more about how retarded the people are that voted for them than it does for those who didnt |

What a load of bollocks - I hate the way the term Heavy Metal is so loosely applied. Granted Robert Plant is a great vocalist but Zep was not a heavy metal band and neither was Aerosmith etc etc. Why didn't they call it best 'Rock' vocalist? That would have been more appropriate & having said that Paul Rodgers deserves a higher ranking than #9 - afterall wasn't he referred to as the 'Ultimate rock n roll voice' once upon a time?
If Shit Parader wanted to specifically do a poll of the best heavy metal vocalists then the majority of those geezers wouldn't have made that list in the first place. Here's my personal choice of the top 10 strictly heavy metal singers:
1.Ozzy Osbourne
2.Bruce Dickinson
3.Lemmy Kilmister
4.Ronnie James Dio
5.James Hetfield
6.Rob Halford
7.Dave King (Fastway)
8.Zodiac Mindwarp
9.Al Jourgensen
10.Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory) |

You are right about this in a technical sense, and you may be right about this in an artistic sense as well. |

Chuck D. would belong on that list as well just because of his collaboration with Anthrax on "Bring The Noise" and because Public Enemy tours with a live backing band now in addition to the DJ. |

Heavy Metal is to diverse to get a real consensus... You gotta figure you got the great Motorhead and then you got bands like Bon Jovi...
