Topic: The Beatles "Love" #1 on World Chart Return to archive Page: 1 2
4th December 2006 10:07 PM
Poison Dart The Beatles "Love" is the #1 album in the world this week. It sold 769,000 copies in it's first week.

It should be noted that "A Bigger Bang" also hit #1 on the World Chart. It stayed there for two weeks (maybe three) I forgot how many copies it sold in it's first week.

Shouldn't this be the chart that people pay attention to? It's the only chart that I know of that counts total sales around the world. Rather than a single country.

No.

A record should be judged individually - not by how many copies its sold and where.
4th December 2006 11:06 PM
keefjunkie He didnt say it shouldnt.

But he was refering to charts, in which case i agree.
5th December 2006 12:09 AM
Poison Dart I didn't say anything about it's artistic merit.

I was referring to the importance of the chart itself.

If Gazza recommends it, then it's got to be good!

The all-knowing all-seeing Gazza is like the Wizard of Oz.

Gazza, the Wizard of Rocks Off, hiding behind the black curtain!

The way its mixed, the unusual way bits of different songs are meshed together. When I read about it afirst I thought it sounded a horrible concept, but its actually done very well.

glencar I think he "does" all the positions except for Linda. Much better in idea form than execution.

MRD8 LOVE really is an incredible job of mixing bits and pieces of their songs into one big cohesive CD...its a soundtrack for the Cirque De Soliel show that recently opened in Vegas...I'm hoping they eventually bring it to Cirque at Disney World!

ABB sold about 400,000 copies during the first week, half of that in UK and US.

In parts, but for such a short career which produced relatively few outtakes, what was in the can was a bit too thin to keep the interest up over six discs.

And despite all that, they still couldnt find room for two of the much sought after unheard of Beatles outtakes - namely the 13-minute 1967 outtake "Carnival of light'(vetoed by Harrison as he 'didnt like avant-garde music') and the 27-minute version of 'Helter Skelter'
