Topic: THE 1967 EUROPEAN TOUR WAS AWESOME! Return to archive

MemoFromTinaTurner Check out these vids for proof of how awesome that tour was. The Stones really were ahead of their time. These live recordings don't really sound that different from the kind of punk rock stuff that was being recorded in the late 70's. People who say "Some Girls" was the Stones' attempt at trying to appeal to the punk crowd should really listen to these recordings to realize that they pioneered that sound. High-energy rock and roll at its finest. Please check out these videos and let me know what you think.

These are probably the best live versions of "Let's Spend The Night Together" and "Satisfaction" I've ever head. They were recorded live in Paris, 1967:

"Under My Thumb" and "Paint It Black" live in Paris, 1967:

Mel Belli I was stunned when I first heard audio from the '67 tour. They were clearly gathering the power of the '69 arena-rock sound (and blowing away what was left of the Beatles as a "band" band in the process). All that was missing was one Mick Taylor.

Same here. I was amazed when I first heard those boots because it seems that not even Stones fans are aware of that tour. It was a really powerful tour. The Stones were playing with a raw, powerful and wild energy that predated all the 70's proto-punk and punk stuff. Their sound was almost as agressive as The Stooges or the MC5. It sickens me that The Stones treat their past in such a careless manner. It really is a shame that many Stones fan are not even aware of all this stuff. It would blow them away and it would come across as a shock to hear all this live stuff to many of them. People need to hear live recordings of the Stones from the time when they were at their prime/peak. The Stones should have officially released boots of this stuff and other stuff like the Brussels, Sydney, Leeds, Hampton and '78 live stuff a long time ago as it would really benefit their legacy as one of the greatest bands ever and that's the kind of stuff fans want to hear.
