Winwood, Townshend & Weller to Stage Jim Capaldi Charity Concert
December 05, 2006
Steve Winwood, Pete Townshend, Paul Weller and Bill Wyman are among those taking part in an all-star celebration of the late Jim Capaldi, solo musician and member of Traffic. The show will take place Jan. 21, close to the second anniversary of his death, at London's Roundhouse. Tickets for the show go on sale Dec. 18.
The Dear Mr. Fantasy concert, named for one of Traffic's best-known albums, will celebrate the life and work of Capaldi, who died of cancer Jan. 28, 2005 at 60. The event will raise funds for the Jubilee Action Street Children Appeal, a charity in which Capaldi and his wife Anina were active.
The show will be presented by BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris. Already confirmed to appear are Winwood, Capaldi's longtime collaborator both in and out of Traffic; Townshend, Weller, Wyman and other such performers as Joe Walsh, former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord, Gary Moore, Simon Kirke, Dennis Locorriere, the Storys, Andy Newmark, Ray Cooper and Paul "Wix" Wickens.

yes and no. The building itself is about 160 years old and was used as a concert venue from the mid 60's up to the early 80's, but it had closed for over twenty years before being renovated and reopening just a few months ago
The Stones played there at the end of their 'farewell' tour in 1971 before they became tax exiles in France, and the Doors played a couple of famous shows there in 1968 (see 'The Doors are Open' TV concert)
The Who played a televised show there just a month or so ago as part of the BBC's "Electric Proms" series of concerts. Looks a terrific venue.
