IT'S enough to make a grown man cry. Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has pulled up stumps on a planned trip to Adelaide.

The ageing rocker was to have flown in to watch his English countrymen take on the Aussies in the second Ashes Test next week.

The South Australian Cricket Association was approached to see what provisions could be made for the megastar, to which they quickly replied.

However, the cricket body has now received word that he is no longer coming.

The Adelaide Test was to have been the only match of the series he was attending during his flying visit to Australia. "We're not sure why he's not coming any more," SACA communications manager Jane Elliott says.

British songwriter and lyricist Sir Tim Rice was also to have come to Adelaide for the Test, but he has also pulled out.

We wonder if the Poms' poor performance during yesterday's first day of the Ashes series had something to do with it?

But Adelaide won't be totally bereft of celebs during the cricket - many Channel 9 and PBL heavyweights, including Eddie McGuire and James Packer will fly in for a day's play, and the usual footy suspects won't be too far from the Members' bar on the Saturday.
