Topic: old grey whistle test - montreaux rehersals Return to archive
November 30th, 2004 05:06 PM
stonedinaustralia a mate has just given me a dub of a video of an "Old Grey Whistle Test" which features the band rehearsing for the '72 tour in a cinema in Montreux

two interesting takes of Tumbling Dice - with MT showing he's only human as he scratches around trying to sort out where his solo should be going

highlight for me is a jam which starts out keith just grooving away in open tuning on a riff from the same line as HTW only a bit funkier - MT then plays these chord lines over the top that have an almost "calypso" feel to them - sorta like some of that latin type feel that chuck berry would sometimes use - it's so good

also they do "hip shake" and a nice swinging 12 bar blues

video ends in typical stones cheesiness - they rehearsed "loving Cup" (with keith on acoustic) however the performance must have been pretty dreadful as the soundtrack is simply the EOMS version dubbed over the top

any one else seen this - does that "jam" i'm referring to have a name??

Back Street Girl I have this on dvd remastered.
The jam is called Bluesberry jam.

No - thank YOU Joey

tele - not sure - they do TD a few times - and yeah Charlie's indiscriminately banging around when they're not actually playing anything

That is it SIA. Compare that to the backstage warmup
video of Mick and Chuck warming up to TD on the VL or
BTB tour. Almost gospel vs guitars from Montreaux
