Ten Thousand Motels AC/DC Honored For 'Best Live Album' In Australian MUSICIAN Magazine Poll -
Blabbermouth.com

According to NEWS.com.au, AC/DC featured heavily in the Australian Musician magazine readers' poll, with "If You Want Blood" scooping "Best Live Album". "Highway To Hell" came third in both the "Favorite Song To Be Played At Your Funeral" and "Best Driving Song" categories.

"You have to remember these are musicians voting, who are very aware of modern music's nature to be derivative of the 1960s and '70s, and that's why they keep voting for these songs and artists as their favorite," magazine editor Greg Phillips said.

"They know all the chords and where they come from, and being aware of how a song is constructed gives them more of an appreciation for what might be called quality music."

AUSTRALIA'S musicians know a good song from a bad one and have voted the annoying Crazy Frog ringtone Axel F as the Worst Song Of All Time.

The inescapable novelty tune finally deposed the line-dancing soundtrack Achy Breaky Heart and the plain bad Macarena from the top spots in the Australian Musician magazine readers' poll.
In the positive categories, Aussie acts figured strongly for the first time, with Spiderbait's chart-topping remake of Ram Jam's Black Betty being voted the Best Cover Version.

"I've always felt that if we ever needed a song that was something different for us, then Black Betty should be something we should ... have a go at," Spiderbait's Kram said.

"If you decide to do a cover you have to really nail it otherwise you'll be crucified for it."

Cold Chisel's evergreen pub rock and barbecue classic Khe Sanh was voted Best Drinking Song, ahead of One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by John Lee Hooker and the Violent Femmes' Blister in The Sun.

Legendary Australian rockers AC/DC featured heavily in the poll, with You Want Blood, scooping Best Live Album.

Highway To Hell came third in both the Favourite Song To Be Played At Your Funeral and Best Driving Song categories.

"They know all the chords and where they come from, and being aware of how a song is constructed gives them more of an appreciation for what might be called quality music."

Barry White was deposed as the king of the Bedroom Soundtrack with Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing and Let's Get It On beating Can't Get Enough Of Your Love.

Mick Jagger was the standout winner of Rock's Biggest Poser, beating the loathsome KISS guitarist Gene Simmons and Robbie Williams.

It was no surprise that Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven was voted the Song To Be Played At Your Funeral.

"I think what song people want played at their funeral is something everyone considers at some stage," Phillips said.

"Everyone wants to go out the right way and the last thing you want is someone playing Celine Dion."

Phillips said rock's heavy bias in the poll results reflect recent market reports that indicate more equipment and instruments are being imported than ever before.

Sales of electric guitars in Australia are up 19 per cent in 2005, bass guitars increased by 6 per cent and purchases of amps are up 12 per cent.

"With electric guitars and amps being tuned in and turned up in the growing wave of quality live music in Australia, one has to ask, 'Where is all this music going?'," Phillips said .

"We all look at the charts as an indicator of success in music, but there is so much more music happening outside the charts.

"As the poll shows, people have strong emotional connections to music and I think that's something the major record companies have forgotten because people keep going back to older songs."

I don't care what Mick or the Stones have done in the past few years, that comment is just plain laughable

gypsymofo60 Australia is my home, but make no mistake it is the land of the hopelessly deluded nationalist. If it aint Australian it's inferior. They are pathetic!

Even their musicians are parochial, insular, and blinkered. Not taking anything away from ACCADACCA but it's typical. This is the band that pretty much ignore their Aussie origins anyway.

They always come up with these nonsensical lists, it;s embarrasing. How can you compare ACDC live in 1978 to The Rolling Stones, 'Love You Live', 'Still Life'? How can you compare them to the greatest live albums of all time?

Whenever respected music publications compile these BEST OF, GREATEST this that or t'other Australia is completely ignored. That's because in the grand scheme of things GLOBAL Aussie just doesn't rate. Most people outside of Australia only really associate ACDC, INXS, and a mere handfull of other groups and soloists as being of any real international significance. NOW, I WONDER WHY THAT IS?

!!

That may be the most vomit-inducing list I've ever seen. Fucking MASON WILLIAMS? Let's not go there, shall we? And the next time I hear the acoustic version of Layla in any context ever, I WILL destroy every last form of life on earth.

Makes me say... HUH?

"Hey, Jer, wanna play some Classical Gas?"
"... Man, just shut up and sing El Paso, Bobby."
