All this talk about Stones album sales got me to look at Billboard's American certifications. According to Billboard "A Bigger Bang" has been cerfified gold (500k sold) and platinum (1,000,000 units sold)
What's the story?
Also, ABB hit #1 on the Internet charts as well as the Global/Worldwide and Euro charts.
Here are some US sales figures along w/highest American chart position

3/ Voodoo Lounge 2,000,000 (double platinum) (#2)
4/ Steel Wheels 2,000,000 (double platinum) (#3)
5/ Dirty Work 1,000,000 (platinum)(#4)

22/ Rolling Stones Now 500k (gold)(#5)
23/ 12x5 500k (gold)(#3)
24/ Englands Newest Hitmakers 500k (gold) (#11)
For the record Hot Rocks (highest US chart position #4)is the #1 selling Rolling Stones record with 12 million copies sold in the US thus far.
40 Licks (#2) is the biggest selling title of the last 25 years with 4 million copies sold in the US thus far. 40 Licks could go on to sell many more copies and replace Hot Rocks as the most popular Stones greatest hits collection.

Don't trust in RIAA's certifications, the shipments are VERY different of actual sales. |

the rolling stones are more main stream now than they used to be--encompassing several generations, not just rebellious teenagers. also, the world population is bigger, therefore there are more folks around to buy the cds.

Soldatti,
You are definitely the man w/ the numbers around here and I enjoy the info you provide...Since the RIAA hasn't certified Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Ya-Ya's since 1989, can you tell us what the actual sales numbers are for these albums currently...Thanks..... |

I'm surprised that Between the Buttons is only listed as Gold. I would think it's done better than that by now. Well, maybe not now I think about it more. The only popular tunes on that one are "Ruby" and "Spend the night" but those tracks are available elsewhere. But still, the record is about 38 years old now so it's bound to have done better than 500k. Right? |

Between The Buttons moved more than 350k during the soundscan era (1991-now) and the last certification was on 1967. |
