In the December 2002 issue of MOJO magazine, there's a FREE 16-track Mind Blowing Classics'CD. Featuring The Small Faces, Donovan, Sebadoh and Grandmaster Flash it's the perfect prescription to feed your head. In the new edition:

The massive exploration of drug culture has in-depth features on the following... Queens Of the Stone Age Jenny Bulley hangs out with the feel-good rulers of desert psych. Etta James Andria Lisle tells the dark dope tinged tale behind the soul queens greatest song I'd Rather Go Blind. The Allman Brothers Band Barney Hoskyns delves into the epic tale of white-boy blues and Southern tragedy. Happy Mondays
How a bunch of shifty Mancunians with a load of ecstacy changed the face of British rock. By John Harris Bob Dylan How a '60s folk hero altered the collective mind of a generation. Everybody must get stoned, says Andy Gill

jb Mojo has been a major Stones hating rag for many, many years..it is a disgraceful publication and another black eye for the English...perhaps the most anti-Stones country on the earth.

Voja JB!
Don't judge about book by the cover! Better bye it and read it. Besides (and unfortunately) MOJO is one of the best music magazines ever.

100 Years Ago yeah the Brits they still know how to make great rock magazines: Q, Mojo and Uncut (which doesn't focus exclusively on music of course

sadly, we have nothing of that quality in States

jb Please Voja..have you not seen the many negative articles over the years....they have constantly bashed the guys..yet now, when seemingly every critic(sans Roger Friedman and the Fox news network) are praising the tour, MOJO wants to jump on board..sorry fellas..Homey don't go for that..

Gazza Fuck off and try posting sober for a change

Read the reviews in the archives in the UK press after the Boston show that I posted. Your memory is almost as selective as your grasp of history

F505 Fact is that the so called progressive or alternative music magazines consider the Stones as not-hot. They have a point insofar the Stones are no renewers anymore. But these magazines don't just appear in England. For instance the biggest Dutch music magazine "Oor" is not very Stones-minded for a very long time. They rather focus on new bands. The four new songs on "40 licks " were considered as dead wood.

Gazza ..actually I was quite surprised as to how positive the UK press reaction was to the four new Stones songs on "40 Licks".

Personally, I thought it was over-flattering..

VoodooChileInWOnderl Does the new Mojo have an article about Merry Clayton? If yes, do they added a link to the Rocks Off space for Merry?

Gazza Don't see anything there on Merry Clayton..was there supposed to be something?

BTW, since it wasnt mentioned earlier,in the extensive feature on "100 Greatest Drug Songs Ever", the Stones are at #4 with "Sister Morphine" behind "Heroin", "Tomorrow Never Knows" and (the winner) "White rabbit". 'Mother's little helper' charts at #70.

There's also a glowing review of the MSG and Roseland shows by David Fricke (oddly enough he doesnt review Giants, though..)

Drug Songs? Rainey Day Women??? #1 and Big Balls by AC/DC isn't about testicles? Rainy Day Women is a drug song and if it's not than "Don't Step On the Grass Sam" is about the high school lawn. Mothers Little Helper at #70 is a vague definiti0n problem. When I was a kid my mother had diet pills called Black Beauties.

England is unfortunately not Stones friendly but Mojo has done very nice Stones coverings from the start (the Nick Kent reprint in one of the first issues!)Uncut as well.

Really bad is (apart from modern times NME,etc): Classic Rock. They just don't print a word about the BEST. And no Stones in their 100 best Classic rock albums. What a joke !!

Yes, three journalist from Mojo contacted me during the last month as they are preparing an article for Mojo about Merry, specifically about Brothers and Sisters Gospel LP, a Dylan covers album that features Merry. Maybe they are delaying the article.
