me thinks that Pete writing about Real Good Looking Boys, The Man In The Purple Dress and Stockholm Syndrome captives wasnt exactly what the labels marketing team was hoping for....

maybe they should try promoting it on Dateline

' The Man in the Purple Dress ' is a song about the magistrate who presided over his trial .

That is the luscious Townshend / Fuller composition .

I really do believe that Pete and Rachel should write more songs together ( see : Lennon / McCartney ) .

time is on my side Saw The Who & the Pretenders in Hot'lanta last night.

The place was packed and the crowd was enthused & very much into their Who experience (some for the first time I suspect as this was the first time they've been back to Atlanta since 2000). They gave The Who a rousing reception. This was my 7th Who show starting way back to 1971 but the first TIME I've seen them since 1997 (the Quadrophrenia tour- as luck would have it, I also saw Quadrophrenia played in its entirety in 1973).

So with a 9 year wait between shows, I was really looking forward to this show. Also, this was my first time seeing Roger and Pete being billed as The Who. Let me tell you, while the Ox and Moon are sorely missed (there is no way this comes even close to prime time Who), they did not disappoint. A vast improvement of The Who shows I saw in the 80's or 90's. A great show with the energy level high and with one highlight after another. I would say this is the best Who show I've personally seen since 1979.

As others have written and I can now confirm, the drummer Zak Starkley comes close to approximating Moon. Alas, the Ox has not been replaced & that's why I wouldn't place this show near anything I saw in the 70's. Still this was great, great entertainment. I left the arena wanting more.

Even though The Who really don't change their setlist during any legs of the their tours, for instance this being the U.S leg, (it's the exact same show night after night), I was actually surprised ,when I was expecting to hear Substitute; they instead shocked me and played Anyway Anyhow Anywhere instead. They did a great job playing the classics. Pete was on fire all night.

The Endless Wire songs were played to what can only be termed a lukewarm reception. The songs were played well with Daltry destroying his microphone (who says they don't destroy their equipment anymore) as it refused to work as he was about ready to play the last song of the night, Tea & Theatre. The album itself I've grown to really appreciate even though I wouldn't term the album great (from my point of view it's merely very good, much better than I expected it to be).

I would love to see another show especially with type of focus and energy. It was a very impressive concert. If they're coming to a town near you, SEE THEM.

By the way, The Pretenders put on a very good show in the difficult position of being the opening act to a name act like The Who with people going to or coming from their seats. It was a pleasure to see then again as well.
