3 out of five for RFD

RFD had the potential for a good number, Daryl had a solo for a portion of it, which I thought was odd for one of two tv numbers. Keith seemed lost not knowing when Mick was playing guitar or not. Ronnie seemed into it. Audio drifted in & out, can't networks get this simulcast right by now?

what a shame. they don t know who play guitars on the song, do they even recall the name of the tune??
with such high ticket prices I d like to see a band CONCERNED!!
November 23rd, 2005 10:53 AM
the good What really threw RFD into total dysfunction (besides the out of tune guitars) was the fact that Mick couldn't remember the words. This threw everybody off. He did the same thing opening night in Philly with SMU and She's so Cold.

Saint Sway the big mistake was to play that awful Rain dance song. Forget that they looked like they didnt even know how to play it.

I remember in past years when they seized the opportunity of national TV exposure and threw the mighty Stones hammer down with killer performances. Anyone recall the MTV Awards show at Radio City when Jagger came strutting thur the audience during Love Is Strong and then they followed it with a lights out performance of Start Me Up? That was the Stones at their best - rising to the occassion. Or the Mixed Emotions/IORR 1-2 punch at an awards show simulcast in 89. Good stuff.

not last night though. They just looked lost and old and out of tune. That song really made them look like wannabees. They should of rocked out with a powerful performance of ONNYA.

if I hadnt bared witness to 6 killer Stones shows this year, I would of thought that they were washed up watching that. Not a good representation at all of a band that is playing at its peek right now.

a real shame. We were humiliated on national TV.

Bloozehound I'm one of the few here that have stuck up for Rain Fell Down, but last nights performance of Rain was abysmal, on live TV too, started off like a trainwreck, sounded like they each started playing 5 different songs at once, took them a while to finally get it to gel and even then it just sucked, just lame, didn't go anywhere, it's no Miss You, even the crowd looked half asleep

I left the room halfway through it, IORR perked my ears up enough to return, but then they only got halfway through that one before the curtain fell, shit, they should have started out with IORR in the first place. And to think people tuned in for 2 - 3 hours just to see that, what a let down

I actually fell asleep halfway through it .... IORR woke me up briefly , but me eyelids were so heavy from RFD's soporific effects that I immediately sank into a deep slumber so profound that I had serious drool on me pillow this morning when the alarm went off ....

I'm seriously considering selling my QWEST CENTER ticket for this january .

nice use of the word: soporific!

Don't sell that ticket! I have RFD on a boot from Philly and it sounded fine! They had a bad night last night.
Maybe being in a land of Mormons got Keith down, I mean how many liquor stores are there in Salt Lake City anyway? Whenever I see video of the people that live in that town I get the heebee geebies! Thank God The Chicago Bulls spanked them twice in the NBA finals!

Joey " I have RFD on a boot from Philly and it sounded fine! They had a bad night last night. "

The decision to perform ' RFD ' ITSELF was completely unconscionable and a tad bit disconcerting ....not to mention disheartening .

This coupled with the scheduling of a Thanksgiving Day show in Denver's PCENTER ( still WIDE OPEN at the $ 400.00 level BTW ) has left me feeling that Mick Jagger & Company have become completely out- of - touch with mainstream American Society ( see : Bushie41 in 1992 and Bushie43 in 2005 ) .

KeepRigid The first minute or so of RFD usually sounds like a train wreck anyway. I was cringing the first time I saw it live.

But you know how people here can tell Mick fucked it up? They know the lyrics and the album version. How many watching the AMA's do you think had that luxury? To them, it was probably a funky mess that somehow came together before it was over.

By the time IORR kicked in, the attention span of the viewers had completely forgotten what had happened five minutes earlier.

Just look at the Associated Press report:

The Rolling Stones closed the show with a two-song performance from Salt Lake City, wrapping up the evening with a spirited rendition of It's Only Rock&Roll (But I Like It).

Wait a minute, where's the big fallout from this nationally televised debacle? All anyone else could report was how Mariah Carey only received one award- what a major setback to her career revival!!!

It's the fucking AMA's. Any other time, everyone here would be making fun of the show, so it's funny how important the whole thing suddenly is. The target audience is 14-year-old kids, and they were all busy playing the new Xbox.

The Stones could have come out and ripped through Soul Survivor for all anyone cared, and it wouldn't have made any difference. Households across America were not tuned in for three hours of 'Bow Wow' and 'Ciara'. Don't kid yourselves.

You can bet your Sweet Ass that Paul McCartney NEVER would have fu##ed up the lyrics on national television .

I agree that they should have torn into something like Oh No Not You Again or Rough Justice. RFD was a strange choice to be sure.

As for Thanksgiving Day, we get subjected to the same crappy food and the same crappy Detroit Lions EVERy year. If I lived anywhere within 300 miles of Denver I would fall down on my knees and thank The Stones for saving an otherwise awful day. Ilost my interest in Thanksgiving years ago. I wish the Vietnamese, Thai and Indian Restaurants were open that day. I'd sneak over for some Pho, Massaman or Vindaloo over more yams and Turkey anyday.
November 23rd, 2005 12:49 PM
PeerQueer I must and will concur with the disgust of last night's performance.

The Stones performed an abortion and we are left with the emotional wreckage.

JB was right all along...

texile i didn't watch it....i purposely worked late only to walk in the door right before the stones came on.......
i stayed far away from a tv and let it pass.
the stones have a lousy track record at these kinds of events and i had premonitions - they just aren't that kind of band.....
i've always fanatisized the stones would perform in thier 72 glory in a modern day setting like last night's and prove to everyone present WHY they are the greatest rock and roll band ever - but it just ain't gonna happen.
yes - onnya would have been a better choice....and why the eurythmics?

Maxlugar I was watching in bed last night.

What I witnessed made me try and smoother myself with my own pillow.

When I succeeded in only giving myself a headache, I took my clock radio and began viciously pummeling my nads in a horrific attempt at self mutilation.

It was that bad.

Stones fans around the globe are hanging their heads in shame and smashing themselves in the balls with their clock radios today.

Here is a small sample of words that came to mind seconds after the AMA(!) cut The Rolling Stones(!) off midway through a toothless IORR:

Lame
Clown-like
Tired
Nut shriveling
Embarrassment
$175-$450
Nebraska
Big tours no more.

I then went to sleep disgusted.

END.

Joey Ted Koppel is coming out of retirement and will devote an entire episode of " Nightline " this evening on the Stones' AMA debacle .

until the Neilson viewing numbers are officially in from last night, I will continue to wear a brown paper bag with tear drops drawn under the eye holes and the words: "Ashamed Stones Fan" written across the top.

I think you should wear a T-Shirt that says:

I'm Proud to be a Stones fan!

and the back of the T-shirt should say:

Yeah, I saw the AMA
Shut The Fuck Up!

We are Stones fans because we love them. Who fucking cares what a bunch of 20 somethings named Chad and Noah think about them!
