I think Pete has reinvented himself as a guitarist. He plays a lot differently now than he used to, and better IMO. Don't know if his songwriting has suffered, as I've heard no new material. |

How is Pete different as a guitarist now? I haven't seen the Who live, yet, so I don't know. The old Pete was still awesome. Those power chords were great but listen to Live at Leeds expanded edition and tell me he wasn't a great guitarist. Even some minor and ninth chords were turned into crunchy loud chords plus his soloing is awesome. At the concert for NYC, he was great but did more fancy stuff like finger taps.
Just watch The Kids Are Alright too, he's getting so much awesome noise out of that axe. The image and presence is what makes Petey so exciting, but if you listen you'll be almost as enthralled. Personally, he's in my top 10 favourite guitarists to listen to. What he lacks in dazzling technique, he makes up for in brilliant sound and force. It's like Neil Young's guitaring but at a higher level; not the greatest you've heard, but so emotional and riveting. He was a damn good white Hendrix knock-off when he soloed. Him and Robin Trower. |

The guitars are the big problem with the Stones these days !
All that ridiculous prancin around and laughin and smokin . .
They should play their fxxx guitars!!
But I'm afraid they just can't handle it live anymore and it seems they give a shit. People pay big bucks whatever they do.
Charlies drummin has become very boring as well. It's been always simple but smart(like on YaYa's). Now all the little tricks and good intros are missing. He should take a listen to the original stuff again.
To me it's not really correct to still work as Who. But at least they got Pete and his playin makes the difference.
Plus they can hire additional musicans with power and ambition.
Keith should stop all of his cheap talkin and go back to his guitar. |
