Egbert Anyone seen "Sex and Lucia"?

Makes me want to move to Spain. Immediately.
November 16th, 2004 05:42 AM
gypsy No. This is an English-speaking board. We do not see foreign flicks, even if they're subtitled. Cuz if it ain't English, then what's the point? Foreigners should cater to us by Americanizing everything.

God, this is way too tough. There are so many movies to choose from. I will just name a few faves from the top of my head.

-The Last Picture Show
-Full Metal Jacket
-The Quiet Man
-Gentleman Jim
-Deliverance
-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
-Cool Hand Luke
-Imitation of Life

gypsy-just when I think you can't get any better you continue to amaze me. In regards to "Full Metal Jacket", at this moment I am looking across Port Royal Sound at Parris Island where it all took place, sippin a Scotch and smokin a stogie. Wishing you were here. The Marines were in full glory today. Loud

Quiet Man? Oh sweet Lord, I have finally met a woman that likes the "Quiet Man".

Imitation of Life? Do you mean the original version with Claudette Colbert of 1934 or the Lana Turner 1959 version?

Good stuff

Full Metal Jacket was filmed in England, Tele, surely? I'm sure youre right in that it was set where you are, but all of Kubrick's films were made in the UK after he moved there in the early 60's (I think he developed a fear of flying). As far as I remember, they filmed FMJ in the Docklands in London!!

Doesnt quite have the same ring to it, but still a great film!

I know but it was suppossed to be Parris Island
Since England looks so much like the lowcountry of South Carolina I can see why Kubrick picked it

"Full Metal Jacket" to me was always two different movies
The first half which was great and the 2nd half which sucked

See the drill Sgt. at above site. I am buying one his dolls for joey for his birthday
November 17th, 2004 02:40 PM
gypsy I was just thinking that-about FMJ being two movies.
The drill sargeant doll is going to give joey major flashbacks.
By the way, where is our joey today?

glencar I'm glad others share my joy of the "Tony Santos Story." A great film about a great man. FMJ always struck me as being 2 distinct films glued together. That last Kubrick film (Eyes Wide Shut) was just too dull to contemplate.
