Topic: The Killers or Franz Ferdinand?.....From Ian Return to archive

Well as I said before I am no big fan of this post-punk/new wave rehash that is now becoming popular again. I never was much of a fan when it first originated in the very early eighties (82-83).

However I will give anything a listen as I did with the hyped band The Killers.
Not bad I thought, not my cup of tea of-coarse but not a bad effort for what they were going for.

But: I gotta say Amigo's that the other band that is getting fame for this type of musical style Fanz Ferdinand is, well, better from what I hear. Like I say this type of music was never my thing but I do think that between the two IMO Fanz Ferdinand takes it. I don't think the two bands are miles apart or anything but I do know what I hear. All this hype about The Killers should really be re-evaluated, I don't think Franz Ferdinand is getting their just do.

keefjunkie franz is loads better but i like both..
November 6th, 2005 04:58 PM
exile I really like Franz Ferdinand, I have not heard the new album though. But the first one is really good in my opinion. Give it a few listens it really grows on you.

The killers are pretty good too. But I rate Franz as being better

Im seeing Franz Ferdinand play in jan. looking forward to it.

JuanTCB Is it just me or does "Take Me Out" sound a hell of a lot like "Dance, Pt. 1"?

I really like the Killers' album. The first Franz one left me cold except for "Take Me Out" - haven't heard anything off the new one yet.

Soldatti Franz Ferdinand last album is good, but the first one is a lot better. I don't like the Killers albums very much.

Every one tried to blow to push The Killers. Yeah they were OK for what they do (again the post punk/new wavw thing was never eally my cup of tea then or now) but Franz Ferdinand are better. IMO.

The Killers got to be on Rolling Stone and everyone was talking about them as the new hip group but you know....I say Franz Ferdianand are better. Glad others see it my way.

It urks me when one group gets most of the pub, and fame when another group was there before the famed act were and are even better at the gig yet have to take a second seat. I think that's BS. alwys urks me when someone doesn't get there just do.

Paranoid_Android Franz is better...but neither are the YEAH YEAH YEAHs!!!
November 7th, 2005 04:37 AM
Jumacfly the Killers are incredibly overrated, and the Franz are a better band on stage(I ve seen them both).plus they got good songs, and their last record is very good too.

they ve (re)invented a punk disco style you can find everywhere nowadays, like on last Robbie Williams song (the drumming style is the same with the pre dominant charley).

FF 1/0 Killers

mickmask I like FF's sound too...
but man, those boys gotta do somthing with those toofs!

ResidentMule I'm amazed at the number of people over the age of 18 that like the Killers. not that they're all that bad, I'm just surprised is all
November 7th, 2005 01:39 PM
sirmoonie I totally agree Ian. Germany used the assasination of Smack-Duke Franz to launch the first of the World Wars that it started. It wasn't the first instance of the demented nature of German nationalism, but certainly the most vile. At least to that point in time, I mean. Obviously, German nationalism, and the horrors it is solely responsible for, got much, much worse even after their crushing and cowardly defeat in the next World War that the Germans started, and it remains a threat to Western Civilization and mankind in general to this very day.

Yep - that was my first impression as well.
November 7th, 2005 07:44 PM
Gazza They're both pretty good but I preferred the Killers first album over Franz Ferdinand's, which I thought was patchy. "Take me out" was a gem of a single however, although The Killers' "All The Things That I've Done" was every bit as good, if not better.

Havent heard FF's 2nd album yet - just the first single, "Do ya wanna" which I liked.

November 7th, 2005 08:11 PM
exile There are a few gems on FF's !st album Gazza if you give it another listen. I listened the first time and thought the same as you do.

gave it 2 more listens and really got into it. "Matinee" song and "Fire" song for a start. another one called "Michael"

might go buy the second FF album this week. (not Foo Fighters BTW)

There is another band called "The Kills" which is very similar to "The Killers" I was getting mixed up between the two until recently.

Honky Tonk Man It's The Killers for me every time. Don't get me wrong, Franz Ferdinand have some decent enough tunes, but there’s a silliness to they're style and music which I dislike.

I absolutely adore The Killers. Great songs, great lyrics and with Brandon Flowers on vocals, one of the greatest singers I have heard in a long time.

If you live in the UK and don't yet own Hot Fuss, I'd recommend you pick up the United States import version. You get all the tracks that were on the original UK release, plus a couple of b-sides and the fantastic Change Your Mind, which was left off the UK album.

Sir Stonesalot >There is another band called "The Kills" which is very similar to "The Killers" I was getting mixed up between the two until recently.<

The only thing similar about these two bands is the name. The Kills are miles better than The Killers.

The new Franz Ferdinand album is much more rocknrolly than the first album. I like it. The guy that sings for the Killers...I dunno...he leaves me cold. He just sounds like he's whining to me. And he's pretty. The guy from Franz Ferdinand sounds pissed off. And he's ugly. I prefer pissed off to whining, and ugly to pretty.

MickMask...the tooth comment was too funny! Thanks for the laugh.

You think the singer is ugly? You should see their drummer!

I'm the opposite. I prefer whining to pissed off and pretty to ugly. I just think Brandon Flowers has bags of style and Franz Ferdinand, although very art school, just don't push the right buttons for me. Also, this has nothing really to do with my argument, but Brandon Flowers is TEN years younger than the singer out of Franz Ferdinand. Alex Kraponis or whatever his name is?

egon hello from nelson bay (that's in Australia)!

I don't understand why people like franzie so much.
I find their music very irritating.

But...... I did see some real life dolphins today,
wich was quite good.
And it's 12.30h here, time for a nice cold one.

g'day mate!

ps; I have yet to find a RS album in any of the record stores here.

It's 7:27AM here and it's fucking freezing!

No Stones records? Australia hates the Stones
November 10th, 2005 03:42 AM
Monkeytonk-man All this indie stuff over recent years just doesn't get my blood pumping at all. It just doesn't seem to have te balls and grit of real rock music - I always feel like it's missing 'something'

reminds me a lot of soft porn, got the right idea but doesn't actually get to the meat & potatoes.

Therefore: Franz Ferdinand, killers etc = soft porn
Stones, AC/DC = hardcore porn!

Left Shoe Shuffle I liked Franz Ferdinand a whole lot better when they were known as Gang Of Four.

The Killers?
Meh.

Sir Stonesalot >I liked Franz Ferdinand a whole lot better when they were known as Gang Of Four.<

Yeah, it's pretty blatant.

Did anyone catch GOF while they were out and about? They were in Baltimore when the Stones were in Hershey, so I missed them.

I caught them at the Fillmore a few months ago. It was a great show! GOF was one of those bands that I was just a little too young to get into clubs to see in the early eighties. BTW SS, I was in Hells Kitchen last weekend and saw a Jeep with Gimme Shelter painted on the spare wheel cover. The license plate frame said "proud parent of a future black belt." Is this your car or a friends of yours? I saw it on 8th Ave.
November 15th, 2005 07:26 AM
Voodoo Scrounge I like them both equally. Different sounds set them apart
November 15th, 2005 10:09 PM
Sir Stonesalot MM---not my car.

I'm quite bummed that I missed GOF.
