Maxlugar Anyone ever hear of it? It's from England and it's real good. Reminds me of Creem only thicker like Mojo.

I found it yesterday while at Borders looking for that Uncut Magazine everyone was talking about with the Keith article and CD of blues. I never found it.

But this Classic Rock Mag is great. I'm gonna get a subscription.

jb Q...?

steel driving hammer Hey Maxy, no joke.

Were you walking past the studio where Paula Zahn has her morning show? From what I remember I saw you walk by w/ a dark blue or black sports jacket around maybe 6:45 yesterday. You didn't look in the window but just walked by, but was it you?

You turned on all the charm.
You had a cold look in your eyes.

Acted much too calm.
You had a cold look in your eyes.

It stretched half a mile.
You had a Stone cold look in your eyes.

What do you mean? Are they smartasses? Do they talk about taking drugs? Is it funny? Does the editor want to fuck Lou Reed? Is there a fashion section? Do they need the services of the good Doctor Filth? Tell me more. Damn!

11-13-02 03:41 PM
Maxlugar Steelie are you yanking my chain?!?!

I do walk by there everyday at just about 6:55! Brown leather jacket.

Just before that I walk by the Fox News window too! Much better babes.

If I know you are watching I'll wave like retard next time!

Nasty, I haven't read it all yet. Just a very little actually. But the captions are pure Creem and the over all attitude.

Mick Wall is the editor. [email protected] will see your resume immmediately!

You gotta work there and get me a job too!

MAXY!!

sasca Yuck. Rocknroll taxidermy.
11-13-02 03:54 PM
Nasty Habits What do you mean, sasca? Is "Classic Rock" not to your liking? Tell me more!

11-13-02 04:18 PM
sasca I just dont like magazines which deal exclusively with the past of rnr. I dont have anything more against Classic Rock than any similiar publication but music should be vital - alive - not safely stored and stuffed, giving the appearance of life without being alive.

Nasty Habits I hear you there -- that's why I was curious as to Maxy's excitement -- Creem was always the most disgustingly alive of the newsstand rock mags back in the early-mid 70s and Max knows it -- NOTHING like it exists on a professional level anymore -- great fanzine writers like Johan Kugelberg and Byron Coley are mainly scholars now, dealing with the past. The only fun rock mag on the stands that deals w/contemporary music that I know of is "Horizontal Action" or "The Grimiore of Exalted Deeds", and I don't know enough about porn to write for the former and not enough about death metal to write for the latter.

Stonesprofessor Ah yess....CREEM...Boy Howdy! was always way hipper than CIRCUS....
11-13-02 08:49 PM
gypsymofo60 Creem was the best rock mag around, trouble was it was so hard to get a hold of here in Australia, and if you did, it tended to be like 6 months behind. I still remember how biased the the mag was towards The Stones, they had good taste!
11-13-02 09:17 PM
Maxlugar It seems to have plenty of current Rock in it. Reviews of new albums up the wazoo.

Classic rock is still being performed, ya know.

I know that is hard to believe but it's true.

And I personally don't think it's bad to read in depth articles on past albums and concerts. Hey I'm still getting into some bands that I never really had much time for back when I spun Stones and only Stones in my teenage years. A big part of Rock and Roll is collecting old stuff, as Mr. Nasty can tell you.

Nasty, I'll send you the rag (minus the Boy-Howdy T-shirt) when I'm done if you like. There's some funny shit in there.
11-13-02 11:41 PM
Nasty Habits That's OK, Max -- I already have a Boy Howdy t-shirt. Hey, who was this CIRCUS cat? Did he parade around the ROCK SCENE in a flouncy little clown suit and bang his head a lot? I KNOW Boy Howdy could've kicked his ass!

I would love to see this mag and will keep my eyes open for it! Keep me informed!

Any Stones in it?

11-14-02 05:53 AM
Scot Rocks Yeah got it a few times, it is ok, does not have massive Stones content and is obssesed with Led Zepplin, there is always something in about them. It also focuses more on bands like Metallica, G n R's, Ozzy, Aeroshit and overall heavy rock but it's ok. Btw jb Q is shit, always dissing the Stones, this months they gave the Stones a really lukewarm 1 page review for everything al the remasters and 40 Licks and in another part of the mag. stated that the Who could be seen to be a better band than the Stones, well not in those exact words but i don't have it in front of me.

Cheers

Mark

beer 2 questions:

Steelie, what is that in your avatar? Otter pops doing the wave?

Maxy: do you still have that guitar?
11-14-02 07:05 AM
stonedinaustralia yes the glory days of creem magazine - some wonderful stones editions and a great one with the new barbarians, asa i recall

as gmf60 points out - always late but more like three months not six - somethings never change (unless you've got the time and $ to pay for and collect air-freight copies)

we only got the mojo "tojan explosion" less than two months ago... what a wonderful thing that is... it was worth the wait
11-14-02 07:51 AM
Maxlugar Beer, no I don't have it anymore. I used to bend the neck a little ala Jeff Beck and eventually the neck got warped. I used to have to tighten the strings to straighten the neck so much that my fingers would get quite a workout just holding down the chords. Which was actually good practice because when I'd go over to Sam Ash and play the new Fenders and Gibsons it was SOOOO easy. I wound up throwing it out one day. That was about 10 years ago and I have not had a guitar since

Nasty, Circus was a competing magazine. Along with Hit Parade. How is it I still see these two peaces of shit but no Creem? I guess because they went Hair Metal and Creem didn't.

Love live CREEM!

11-14-02 08:29 AM
John Wood They listed the top 50 (or 100 I can't remember) albums of all time and not one Stones album made the list! They have very little Stones content, reading this mag you would almost think the Stones never existed.
11-14-02 09:11 AM
Maxlugar You're right about that. I see next to nothing about them in this issue.

I was hopefull this was just this issue not having any.

Troubling......

But I still like it. I'll buy a few issues and see how it goes.

This one and Mojo would be the only ones I buy regularly.

MAXY!
