charlotte Nov. 15, 1965: The Rolling Stones make their first appearance in Charlotte, drawing less than a half-full house at the original Coliseum (and failing to rate a review in the Observer). Reports the Charlotte News: "What it was wasn't music, but it was harmless. Promoter Jim Crockett had hired 40 policemen to hold back the mob, but there wasn't any mob....[Mick] Jagger looks like a teenage miss who's just washed her hair and can't find her curlers. His straggly brown locks swishing around his shoulders, Jagger wrestles with the microphone, does some fancy strutting and spinning...and sings."

Gazza Not yours, surely???

Is that the same place where they played in 1972 and 1999?

Cant have made much sense to have booked arena shows in too many places in 1965

I always wondered what it must have been like at that show in Omaha in 1964 when they had about 400-500 people in a venue that held 15,000.

at least they went ahead and played the show. these days, if they hadnt sold a third of the tickets a week before the gig they would have found some way of giving them away for free or would have just found some excuse to cancel.

1965 and 1972 at the Old Coliseum 11,666 seats
1999 No Security-New Coliseum 22,500

I'm not sure what would have humiliated Joshy the most. the poor attendance or the fact that the local press didnt even deem it a big enough event to be worthy of a review.

LOL

Shit, Joey's inviting me to Omaha every Friday and thats one I wouldnt have minded checking out. A much more enjoyable alternative than "Acoustic Groove" at the Brazen Head.

It's the office Christmas party that day and Bruce Springsteen the next day, so unfortunately I'll have to pass.
