LITTLE ROCK -- Gov. Mike Huckabee on Thursday gave some satisfaction to fellow guitarist Keith Richards, pardoning the Rolling Stones member for a 31-year-old misdemeanor reckless driving ticket.
Huckabee formally pardoned the Rolling Stones guitarist for a July 5, 1975, arrest in Fordyce. Richards and fellow Stones member Ron Wood were pulled over by a Fordyce officer as they traveled from Memphis, Tenn., to Dallas when police saw the vehicle swerve. Richards later said the car swerved because he bent to adjust the radio.
Richards was charged with reckless driving and possession of a concealed knife. The knife charge was dropped, and Richards pleaded guilty to the reckless driving charge and paid a $162.50 fine.
Huckabee issued a formal notice in September of his intention, putting in play a 30-day period for public comment. The governor, who plays guitar himself, said in the notice that no judge or police officer has objected to granting Richards executive clemency.
A release from Huckabee's office noted that Dallas County Sheriff Donny Ford did not object to granting Richards the pardon.
Huckabee said previously he came up with the idea after a conversation he had with Richards backstage before a Rolling Stones concert at Little Rock on March 9. In June, the state Parole Board approved the pardon application for Richards, prepared by Huckabee and his chief lawyer.
The pardon restores to Richards all rights, privileges and immunities he enjoyed prior to the conviction except the right to own and possess firearms. Asked previously if the gun prohibition applied only to convicted felons, governor's spokeswoman Alice Stewart said she would have to research that question.

Does this not reak of publicity seeking, or does anyone here really beleive that someone of Keith Richards stature would get all hot and bothered over a 30 year-old tin pot conviction? Either way, its an interesting bit of news. Thanks as usual, TTM. |

The Governor is probably trying to get backstage again. But its probably better than not being pardoned though. |

Backstage where? Are you an idiot? Huckabee is retiring as governor & not running for any other office although he might run for POTUS eventually. Surely pardoning Keef doesn't help him politically in any case & you are just being stupid. |

You're welcome. Huckabee is most noted for dropping 100 pounds by diet & exercise. |
