See how "conditioned" you are. The methods and techniques of modern propoganda are quite effective, aren't they?

Hell yes. If I have to hear bad news it better be from a babe than from some 60yr old man

Fiji Joe Like I said Tele...if Alan Colmes and Al Franken are the faces of the left, it's no wonder they're jumpy...like dalmatians...Hell throw in Al Gore and Al Sharpton and it doesn't get any prettier....Ever wonder why there are so many left wingers named "AL"...it's code...the inverse of which is LA...their mecca...

I want some kind of truth. Who or what or where it comes from is irrelevant. 6 oclock news shows are pablum nowadays. Probably alaways were. It's kind of hard to run a "free" press....anyway. We try and continue because we have no other place to go.

I went down to the crossroads,
tried to flag a ride
No one seemed to know me
Everyone passed me by

Actually, "loudmouth" was the operative word there. What SHOULD I consider that walking bucket of offal? Fair and balanced? He, like the rest of your heroes (Bush, Cheney and the rest of the posse) makes me want to vomit.

The political climate here never ceases to shock and awe me. Here we are on a fucking STONES board, and so far, the consensus is: Steve Earle = bad and Bill O'Reilly / Fox News = good. I mean, what the FUCK?

So I wonder - is Steve Earle an asshole to you guys because he wrote a song about John Walker Lindh? Or is it because he's against the death penalty? Or is it because he kicks ASS in concert and is one of America's finest songwriters?

Whatever, I just wanted to post a heads up about this TV appearance, which will almost certainly go as Steve predicted: like he does with anything he disagrees with, O'Reilly will try to shout him down, and then tell him to shut up. (Which, I guess, passes for "fair and balanced" among folks who consider Springer educational TV.) I really didn't think that just mentioning Steve Earle would set off a bile attack.

Ten Thousand Motels I don't get it FPM. ..why you protect those democrats. LOL. We have a Libertarian Party you know. Last I heard they'e taking over New Hampshire. Maineis too socialist and good old boy to make it a convenient target. And "good old boy" and "socialist" mean the same thing. Fuck them....I may be too young to die but I ain't too old.

telecaster Thanks for reminding me about the Johnnie Walker Lindh song

Earle is an asshole

TheSavageYoungXyzzy Hmm. Compromise.

Franken and O'Rielly are two of the most horrific windbags I've ever seen. Both full of hot air, both spouting what they believe to be God's own truth and both not willing to listen to any other opinions before cutting off their opponent and going "NO NO NO You're wrong! I'm so right and here's why!" and pretending that they're funny. After listening to both of them, I'm convinced that people like them are horrificly killing the political process by pretending that what they say is absolutely and unquestionably true, and if you don't believe it then you can get outta Dodge.

Does Fox News have bias? You bet. Terrible terrible bias. So does the New York Times. So does Newsweek. So does Newsday. So do the networks. So does The Wall Street Journal. Every publication you read or program you watch, because it's written by humans, will have bias. Your job's to sift through that junk and find what you believe to be the truth - although you've gotta be open to hearing different interpretations as well.

In short, both of these idiots are jackasses for trying to sensationalize themselves to the point where they can convince people that they're the one and only real McCoy, and I wouldn't shed a single tear if they shot each other to death.

-tSYX --- My kinda music, I knew it wasn't gonna be simple...

glencar Thanks for the heads-up, FPM. I probbaly agree with most of O'Reilly's ideas but he IS a bit of a windbag.

Fiji Joe "The political climate here never ceases to shock and awe me. Here we are on a fucking STONES board, and so far, the consensus is: Steve Earle = bad and Bill O'Reilly / Fox News = good. I mean, what the FUCK?"

Why FPM? Because your neat little stereotype is blown out of the water..."what"...conservative Stones fans?...does Peter Jennings know this? How about the professor in the ivory tower? What about Barbara Striesand?..yeah why the fuck are people who have the same political leanings as Striesand starting political posts on a "STONES" message board? what the FUCK?

Get your bandwagon, self-cajoling, testicle rubbing self-affirmation elsewhere or otherwise, don't act shocked when the "moral majority" speaks its peace.

What's my problem with Steve Earle?...He abuses his position to pimp what I see as a skewed, uninformed and simplistic point of view...Just because Steve Earle says it don't mean I have to think it's cool...He can say it, but it don't make it the gospel...

And if you're wondering why the "attack"...read Boom's post and show some of that sensitivity you lefties are famous for..

Like Steve's music but I don't trust him to make policy that shapes my life...

Peace to your dog, cat and butt-burrowing gerbil and I won't bother to ask who wants pie because fat Fiji done ate it all

glencar I'm watching the repeat of tonight's O'Reilly & he hasn't even announced Steve Earle. Did he show up?
11-04-03 08:18 AM
nankerphelge I don't particularly care for Billy O -- but I watch him here & there. I'm surprised at the characterizations of him as a shouter or telling people to shut up!

Usually he has a reasonable dialogue with his guests -- even those with whom he disagrees. Yeah he shouts a bit when making a point -- but no more than any of the others. I have never heard him tell anyone to shut up -- not saying he hasn't, but I've never heard it.

And I really know nothing of Steve -- I have never listened to him. I tried to catch him in concert around here once but couldn't get in. I know nothing of his politics other than what was in that post -- and that seems like a very odd position to me -- i.e., the right wing media! Didn't realize he wrote a song about Johnie Walker.

jb I disagree Fiji...if there is a liberal bias, it sure ain't working. The republicans control both houses and the executive branch and most state legislative branches. Fox News is getting much better ratings then CNN...The country is far more conservative or morderate than liberal. Yet, the republicans still blame Clinton and or democrats for seemingly everything. I remember Bush's cronies saying the military under Clinton was weakened to the point where 2 major divisions would be unprepared if they were called up...later, under senate questioning, Richard Armitage, one of Bush's appointees admitted this was not the case. Indeed, as evidenced by our quick victories in Afghanistan and Iraq, using sophisticated missile/computer technology advanced under the Clinton administration, our military, or should I say Clinton's military did remarkably well...
Talk aout bias, CBS wants to run a mini-series on the Reagans and everyday Fox News tacitly encourages a boycott if it doesn't treat a "dying" president fair....I never saw their outrage over the hundreds of sllacious programs regarding JFK who had his head blown off...The funny thing is, you guys are in control, have the power, as as usual, do nothing good with it....Lets see..FDR created teh New Deal, Truman ended the War, Kennedy stood up to the Russians , Johnson enacted the civil rights act which forever lost the south and the dixiecrats(racist democrats), Carter had a peace accord b/t Israel and Egypt and Clinton led us through the most properous times in our nations history....Now with Reagan, we got Iran Contra and a deficit that took almost 2 decades to get out off, with Bush1 a horrid economy and failure to finish the job in Iraq, and with Bush 2 a gestapo like mentality in the white house, lies about WMD, an attorney general who has encroached on every civil liberty imaginable, and more unemployment than we have had in over a decade....It seems to me, that a reasonable person could argure the democrats did a lot of good things...However, when you listen to liars like Hannity or O'reiley, they equate being liberal with be anti-american or unpatriotic...they clearly have a biased agenda...Colmes is a pathetic moderate, not a liberal, who was hand picked by Hannity to be his whipping boy....he is a hand picked lacky to make it ap;pear that they are being "fair and balanced"

P.S.-I forgot to mention another great republican, Richard Nixon, who left the presidency in disgrace ...even worse than getting a B.J. in the oval office I assume.

Martha And I really know nothing of Steve -- I have never listened to him. I tried to catch him in concert around here once but couldn't get in.

Hey Nanky,

I've only gotten into Steve in the last few years after being turned on to him through a member of this board...Larry Dallas. I really like Steve's music and would encourage you to take a listen at some of his eclectic work. I got to see him this past summer when he toured with Keb Mo' and Jackson Browne..and eventually I'll have this show to share since one of my taper friends went with us...second row seats! Steve came out and ripped my head off with his opening set. He knows how to jam. Check him out.

Is anyone going to see this tour?

Nasty? He's bringing it right in to your neck of the woods.

Hey...SS, and FPM let's blow this pop stand and jam on down to Nasty's villa and check out the show next weekend. Pick me up on the way down would ya'? I'll bring the road treats! YooHa! Do I have some great road treats!

Easy little buddy ..................Iraq is NOT Vietnam .

After all , American soldiers are dying daily , there is NO Exit strategy , there is NO plan for victory , if you put more men into the fray there WILL be more killing , if you take men out of there you got more killing , anything you do you got more killing .............................................Wait !!!!!!!! I know ............................we will do as Nixon and Kissinger did circa '70 -- start a civil war in a neighboring country ( see Cambodia ) , trick THAT nation into doing the fighting for us , and then sneak the Hell out of the region ( see Paris Peace Accords January 1973 ) .

YES!!!

Why, just because of this stupid thread? Don't be silly! I really didn't try to start a political argument here, just reposted something I thought some folks would be interested in. (And it turned out it wasn't on anyway, so I was inadvertantly responsible for making people watch Fox News - and for that I am very sorry) My only contribution to it initially was calling O'Reilly a "loudmouth" and that's really not even open to debate, so I was kind of surprised at some of the responses that got burped up. I shouldn't be - Fiji's always good for a laugh!

Hey, you coming to the gig on Saturday? I need cameramen, and people to go "whoo whoo" during Sympathy.

Boomy - there wasn't enough room to get "Crusty-assed leftwinger Steve Earle vs rightwing loudmouth Bill O'Reilly" in the title box. I do apologize for not being "fair and balanced" in titling the clip & paste article, as this seems to have gotten Fiji's ample nickers in a bunch.

Ten Thousand Motels - I don't "protect them Democrats" (I think that's how you put it), in fact if I voted my conscience I'd be a Libertarian, but in this political climate that equals a vote for Bush, and I'd rather eat razor blades. The Democrats are the only ones who can unseat Bush, and imo that HAS to be done. Sadly, though, I don't think ANYONE can undo the damage that dimwit has done, but at least I'll have a clear conscience - like the majority of Americans, I didn't vote for him.

11-04-03 11:28 AM

Sir Stonesalot >Why, just because of this stupid thread?<

No, because a preponderance of stupid threads. I don't associate with asshole republinazis in my "actual" life, so there is no reason to associate with them in my "cyber" life.

From here on out, you will only see me posting on music based topics.

I'll call later this week about Sat night.

jb Please SS, don't allow a few people from intimidating you off the board. I have always thought you were more of an independent than a party affiliated guy. You , like me, supported Bush own the war, but later changed your mind based on what you believed to be misinformation or lies as to the wars justification. While I still support Bushs decision, I can understand why you feel this way. As far as posting under the music headers only, you have often said what makes this board different is that it is not a "stones only" board. We are a diverse group of people and to limit conversation to stones only topics, particularly when they are no longer touring, would drain the life blood out of this board. I know you, along with CF and Gypsy, get very enraged when Joey or I hijack a thread. Please do not take this personally...Joey and I have a very sarcastic, and at times, immature sense of humour. I understand that serious minded people like you, CF, Gypsy, and a few others could be put off by our off topic subjects. However, in all fairness, as you have often said, one can simply ignore and skip over our posts. We have lost a couple of great people here(Max and SDH) and to lose you would be extremely disappointing. You are beloved by many, including Joey and I, for the generousity you have shown throughout the years. Remember, I had to get over the "awards" you handed out last year when I was totally dismissed when I thought I clearly should have won Most Valuable Poster. In summary, Joey and I basically like everyone here(well , I don't like McQueen, Lucad4, Jagger/Richards, Sammy Davis Jr., Marcus Aurelius, and a few others), and we mean no harm. We don't want you to leave and please don't let a couple of bully republicans push you around.
