Topic: Are cameras/pictures possible at the shows? Return to archive

tcb_in_texas Will security jump on you if they see a flash go off? I've got great seats for the San Antonio show and am wondering my chances of snapping a picture or two. Is this out of the question? Are there any tricks I should be aware of? Thanks to all who respond.

beer There were flashes going off everywhere from cameras, nobody seemed to care at all. The security was really mellow at the Tacoma show.

MidnightRambler Yup, bring the camera. The security has NO problem with the pictures. I walked in the United Center with a camera in my pocket--thinking I'd have to hide it from them--but then they did a pat down and felt it. They asked what it was and I told them it was my camera they asked "35mm?" I said "yeah" they waved me in.

You'll be sorry when you see hundreds of flashes go off during the show!

Have fun!

padre Is it just small pocket cameras that get sneaked in? Any chance for system cameras with real telelenses?

beer I don't know about the other ones but at the show i was at, there was no search, pat-down, metal detecter, nothing. They looked at the ticket, then allowed you to walk on in. That's it. I was surprised, cuz I thought for sure there would at least be some kind of check, but there was literally nothing. My friends were considering taking a video cam in but they didn't. I guess it's sort of a gamble cuz you never know how much the security will check, but i WISH we would've taken our recorders-video/sound. It would have been soooo easy.

swapwoodfortaylor No search at the Atlanta Show.....just the ticket. Why do folk keep going on about flash pics? If you are not close the flash serves no purpose.......and if you are close just use a very high speed 35mm film and no flash. Just make sure that the particular band member has a bright stage light on him at time of exposure.

MidnightRambler Although, you're right about the flash theory...it's sort of good to use the flash? Why? Because when you turn off your flash---the odds of getting out of focus and shaky pictures GREATLY increase. When you have the flash off, and while you're holding the camera with your SHAKY hand--you'll end up with a lot of out of focus and hazy pictures. The flash helps control all of that---unless you violently jerk the camera while you take the picture and then end up with a shaky picture.

Reasons why you COULD turn off the flash, is yes because if you're more than the given distance of the flash range--then it is utterly useless. You'll only get a picture of people's heads and a very dark background with the Stones. Also, you enhance the color of the lighting and the effects.

But--mind you: when you turn off the flash--you risk getting some out of focus shots---the secret is to hold that camera as tight as humanly freakin possible to your body.

Good luck and have fun!
