Stars Help Blues Vet Sumlin Step Into 'Shoes'

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Blues veteran Hubert Sumlin is surrounded by such legends as Keith Richards and Eric Clapton on his new album, "About Them Shoes."
The 13-track set is due Jan. 25 via Tone-Cool/Artemis and also features appearances by the New York Dolls' David Johansen, the Band's Levon Helm and Sumlin's longtime collaborator, harmonica player James Cotton.
The set features seven songs popularized by Muddy Waters, four by Willie Dixon, one penned by Carl C. Wright and one Sumlin original. Richards guests on Waters' "Still a Fool" and the new song "Little Girl, This Is the End," while Johansen lends a hand on Waters' "Walkin' Through the Park" and Dixon's "The Same Thing."
Clapton drops by for Dixon's "I'm Ready" and Waters' "Long Distance Call." He and Sumlin played together this summer at the former's Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas, highlights of which will be released on DVD Tuesday (Nov. 9) via Duck/Reprise.
The lone dates on Sumlin's upcoming tour itinerary are Nov. 12-13 at the Blues Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland. Cotton is also on the bill for the second night of the event.

This is good news.Wonder though why the wait until next year to simply release something thats been in the can for years.Still good to know its not been junked. |
