Beating some sturdy opposition...

The four members of Led Zeppelin have been voted as Britain’s ‘ideal supergroup’.

The poll by Planet Rock Radio asked around 3,500 listeners to create their dream band by picking their favourite star for each respective instrument.

Jimmy Page was the favourite guitarist narrowly beating Slash from Guns n’ Roses and Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore.

Robert Plant was voted as the best singer fending off competition from Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers and Bono.

John-Paul Jones beat The Who's John Entwhistle to the top bass player, while the late John Bonham was voted best drummer ahead of the likes of Keith Moon and Phil Collins.

Presenter Trevor Dan from the station said: “This is an amazing result.

“Listeners could have voted for any classic rock artists when creating their fantasy supergroup, but they chose all the members of Led Zeppelin.

Shawn20 It just goes to show you don't appreciate what you have until it is gone. Mick Jagger is the ultimate front man! Only Elvis himself could possibly rival Jagger.

Riffhard Jesus you talk about glaring ommisions! WTF? Was this poll purposly ignoring the Stones?

Absurd! As these polls so often are. Where was this poll taken?

Saint Sway these types of lists are always silly. Some, though, can be debatable. This one, however, is down right atrocious.

never mind the ommissions of Jagger, Watts and RiffHard. But the inclusion of David Coverdale, Stevie Nicks, Phil Collins and some guy - Eric Carr?? - that used to drum for KISS tells you everything you need to know about the validity of this list.

after reading the names in this list, I'm less surprised that Jagger & Watts were ommitted and more surprised not to see Fred Durst, John Oates, Ronnie James Dio and CC DeVIlle's names on there.

Hopefuly Ronnie James Dio is on the list and Ian Gillan (a real friend of young Jay in real life). I tend to take my morning shit when reading these lists....but at least Ian Gillan and Ronnie James Dio are part of it.

Now, Led Zeppeling, although their contribution to the history of Rock'n'Roll are really overrated.....far overrated and this really pisses me off.......

Gazza thats a 'heavy rock' station. I doubt they'd ever even PLAY the Stones on it.

I'm quite relieved the Stones arent featured, going by that selection

yeah but even he's still behind Ronnie James Dio and David Coverdale!!

..and Stevie Nicks (maybe after all that headbangin' affected their brain cells, they thought she was a guy..)

J.J.Flash Ronnie James Dio, David Coverdale (despite not enjoying some stuff from his Whitesnake) and mostly IAN GILLAN are truly respect and admired by young Jay. These are genius.

marko I don´t give a flying fuck about the lists, pollss whatever.
In a way ZEP is overrated, but i don´t think its actually
isn´t.I also think,they were NOT heavy metal.Very rock n
roll, with lots of blues in it.They might be overrated as an
band, but really underrated as players. They were extremely
good live band. Its completely another thing if you don´t
like their music. To me best Bass players were Wyman&Jones.
You should guys just hear few EX sounding zep boots.

I have allways liked Deep Purple, specially albums like
Stormbringer&Burn. But i think they fell too much in that
changing persons in the band,Same guys in whitesnake and
purple,and even black sabbath.

Drummer Cozy Powell is very Underrated,so is black sabbath
all the way.Sabbath did better albums as ZEP,but their live
shows didn´t catch the quality.

Ronnie James Dio,is MUCH MUCH better singer than Robert Plant EVER WAS,or will be....Just listen RAINBOWS albums
like,Long Live rock n roll and Rising or Black Sabbaths
Heaven&Hell.

PeerQueer Yessssss...

Elvis circa 1957...Hot Damn!

All others have borrowed from him, from meteoric rise to tragic untimely death due to excess and a total loss of self awareness within the trappings of a created persona.

Jagger, as good as he is, is just another bastard child of The King.
