EXCLUSIVE: ROGER DALTREY talking about his generation.. and Macca's missus
By Ben Todd Showbiz Editor

ROGER Daltrey has labelled Heather Mills McCartney the "coldest person I ever met" in a stinging attack.
The Who legend came face-to-face with Heather at the Live 8 concert earlier this year. The wife of Beatle legend Sir Paul was filming backstage at Hyde Park for her own documentary.

Now, in an explosive interview, Roger has hit out at Heather's attitude during the concert.

Roger stormed: "She was at Live 8 with a camera...scary.

"I looked down the barrel and saw her face - and I thought: 'This is the coldest human being I have met in my whole life.'

"She was one cold fish."

The Who and Pink Floyd stole the show at Live 8 - even though Sir Paul was top of the bill.

Roger and Macca have known each other for four decades, but Roger does not believe he has ever really known the real Sir Paul.

He said: "Paul acts like what is expected of him. I find it very strange - but it's how he deals with his life.

"Everything, though, becomes The Paul McCartney Show."

The man who sang My Generation and Pinball Wizard is now 61 - but he is very much an angry young man at heart.

And he remains furious at the treatment of bandmate Pete Townshend two years ago after his arrest for accessing a child porn website. Roger protested: "It's tragic what we are prepared to do to good people. Pete was stupid - he said that from day one - but he hadn't done anything."

The guitarist was cautioned by police and put on the Sex Offenders Register for five years, but no charges were pressed after police found no evidence he was in possession of child porn. Roger continued: "I would have been the first to say, if Pete had done anything throw the book at him. But there was nothing there."

Roger was speaking ahead of the launch of a new Who DVD - Tommy and Quadrophenia Live, out tomorrow. He also revealed that The Who are planning one final world tour for 2006.

Original Who drummer Keith Moon died from a drugs overdose in 1978 and three years ago bassist John Entwistle died of heart attack in a Las Vegas hotel - after a drug-fuelled night with strippers. Roger said: "On stage, it's great because Keith and John seem to come alive. Offstage it's a very lonely existence - I like being in a band."

But Roger remains close to many of his old rock 'n' roll pals. Sir Elton John famously played the Pinball Wizard in Tommy - and Roger says he has not changed over three decades. He said: "He still has his tantrums... and still has many people enjoying it.".

He is also full of admiration for fellow veterans The Rolling Stones, currently on a world tour - and in particular Mick Jagger. He said: "The Stones have kept that edge. Mick is just remarkable. The amount of energy he has is amazing. I don't know how he does all that bouncing around on stage."

Roger splits his time between his estate in Sussex and his West London home. He and second wife Heather have three children together - Rosie, 32, Willow, 31, and 24-year-old Jamie. He also has a son, Simon, from first wife Jacqueline.

But in the last 11 years, he has discovered he has four more children from relationships in the Sixties.

Roger said: "Yeah, I've got eight kids. I know them all and I get on with them all. But it doesn't matter how many I've got - I might have 80! I was only doing the same as any young man back in the Sixties."

Times may have changed, but Roger is upbeat about the current music scene, especially newcomers Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs.

But Roger - who saw Keith, Elton and Pete all battle with booze and drugs - is concerned for Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty, saying: "It's a waste of a life really - because he's got talent.

"He seems to be feeding off it - now he's become infamous for his drug addiction he seems to think: 'That's what I do so I've got to do it.'

"It's very sad."

ROG ON.. Macca
Everything just becomes The Paul McCartney Show

ROG ON..
Pete D
His drug abuse is a huge waste of life and it's so sad

ROG ON.. Pete T
He was stupid over child porn, but he's innocent

ROG ON.. Mick
The amount of energy he has is just remarkable

Gazza I'll definitely get that

Havent seen that Quadrophenia show before (although I was at the Hyde Park gig with the guest artists, that was (partly) - shown on TV)

The Tommy show was on TV in '89 and is pretty good. The 'encore' part of it however is fucking brilliant. They do a great version of 'Dig' which is one of Pete's more obscure solo tunes

justinkurian Yah, definitely pick up the DVD - it has an acoustic version of 'Won't Get Fooled Again' that's worth the price alone. I believe the Quadrophenia encore is an all acoustic set with just Townshend, Daltrey, and Entwistle. I remember they broadcast a show live on the radio back in '94 of '95 and the acoustic set was awesome.

Jumping Jack My guess is that the Quad disk is the 11/4/96 Dayton show that 4 Reels released earlier this year. This all seems to be around in good quality in trade circles, but it certainly will be nice to have it as an official release.
