Actually this thread came up once before and I couldn't post a link because I couldn't find one on the web. However my hometown (Woodstock, Maine) has a little village in it whose claim to fame is the last crank telephone system in the US. It didn't get dismantled until 1983 or 84. Party lines and all that. At least then you KNEW someone was listening in. LOL. Now just the government agencies are allowed to "listen in" ....COL...They just moved the old equipment to the Maine State Museum this year.
The end of an era really.

I dont think there is a link for my town--it is the ghetto. However, the Feb. 1978 issue of OUI magazine--remember that one boys?--published an article on the 10 Toughest Towns in the US--"You DOnt Want to Live Here." Newburgh, NY was number 1. Yep. We proudly carried that article around to show our preppie college-mates.
I am vainly trying to instill some Newburghian streetsmarts into my lily-white bread suburban yuppie kids.
The Stones rehearsed in Newburgh before the 1975 Tour of the Americas--at an old Air Force Base --in a plane hangar. My first tour. oh yeah..... But there were only a handful of us hanging by the fences every night. NOt too many hard-core fans here. |

Another example of a socialist decaying paradise. New York will tax itself to death. |

The Stones can play here, of course.
We got a lot of Stones, blues and rock fans, rally.
And a very good places to play (clubs, theatres, parks, etc.), and by the river. (Parana river)
Cheers,

You bet your sweet ass it will/has. Maine has always been a crooked state. Our governor's house "the Blaine House" is named after one of the most corrupt politicians in Amreican history, James Blaine. Oh well...hey...Jimmy still hot down there????????????? Burn baby burn. |

You know, I was born in Bangor of all places. My family hails from there. I've spent some time in Maine. I don't know about the corruption. What I do know is that the parts of Maine I've seen are extremely beautiful. |

My hometown in upstate New Yowrk only has a traffic light, a general store, and a stray dog.
It sure as hell doesn't have a link!
If you were to give this fine planet an enema, you would do so in my hometown!
