I got into Lehane(the writer of Mystic River) for a period. Read his books back to back. "Mystic" is great but IMO not even one of his best. He wrote Killer books one after another. In "Mystic" he doesn't use his two detective heroes that run his other novels. "Gone Baby Gone", "Sacred" ( I think was the title), "A Drink before The War" are all excellent. But by far his best book is "Darkness Take My Hand". It's actually one of my fave books, period. He uses all the archetypes of a classic hardcore thriller as well as can be done. I'd recommend this book to everyone here. It seems like most of us have similar tastes: Stones, Scorsese, DeNiro,Picasso, Beethoven, Kennedy, Michelangelo and Jesus. |
