I vote for "Might As Well Get Juiced" from Jan 17, 1998.
The version of "Loving Cup" they did in Sept '02 was sweet.
I suppose you ought to have "Shattered" from that night too. |

My two favorite MSG songs that I didn't see live: "Satisfaction" from Gimme Shelter and "Bye Bye Johnny" from 7/26/72.
The two best that I witnessed in person:
"Out Of Control" from 1/14/98. I remember it being a pretty flat show up to that point, and then Mick just ripped it up on that song - it was literally jaw-dropping. He totally lost himself in the end jam, with the harmonica and that crazy dance. Pure musical sex. The best part was that it totally revitalized the band - they kicked ass from there on out - I've never heard the warhorses sound better ("Tumbling Dice", especially). If there's a decent audio or video boot of this show, please let me know!
"Midnight Rambler" from 1/18/03 (the HBO show). A friend of mine waitressed at one of the cheesy sports bars on 8th & 33rd and told me she could get me a ticket from someone she knew at MSG, but it would be after they took the stage. So she sticks me down in the private party room, turns the big-screen TV on to HBO, and keeps me on a steady drip of Maker's Mark. Right at the beginning of "Let It Bleed", she runs in, hands me the ticket, and I'm off. I do the mad dash down the block to the main MSG entrance and get into the arena right behind/above the stage as they're doing the little bit of noodling before "Midnight Ramber" - I didn't even bother looking for my seat - I just stood there, looking down at them, and watched them turn the clock back 30 years for ten minutes. Being able to see Keith turn around to face Charlie and lock in to the groove from that angle was fucking amazing. The essence, right there.
I can't wait for Jan. '06. |

Loving Cup was superb. The '69 version of Satisfaction was the best I've ever heard.

I have never heard it, but the version of LIB they did the night before the PPV had the immortal Hubert Sumlin playing slide...if that's any good it would be a nice addition.
Yeah, if they did "Can't Get Next To You" in '94 that would be cool...great cover...and how about "Get Up, Stand Up" from September?
This is going to be a cracking good set!
