Topic: Info I did not know from Wyman's Book Return to archive

frankh Just got Bill Wyman's book. $35 on Amazon. Well worth it. Very informative with great pictures. I learned 2 things.

First, I did not know that Mick Taylor played onstage in Kansas City, Missouri with the Stones in 1981. "We went onstage and played to 17,670 Fans. We did our usual set. I regarded this as our worst show of the tour. Mick Taylor came onstage and played with us for most of the show, and all that could be heard were guitars. I had awful problems with my equipment, not being able to hear it at all. The audience were quite good considering".

The second was the circumstances of Stu's death. "On December 11th, Stu played with Rocke 88 at the Old Vic Tavern in Nottingham. Next evening, he went to a Harley St. specialist for a heart scan. Just after having it, he died of a hear atttack in the waiting room, at the age of 47. His humour, loyalty to the band and friendship with all of us were irreplaceable".

sasca Yeah! Just because he was there doesn't mean he's right. I remember Paul McCartney and George Harrison each remembering the same event in Hamburg clearly - and differently.

frankh Which event?
How did they remmber it in Hamburg?

Moonisup Beatlememories are not in my head

the best memory from the beatles is the day they called it the day

sasca I can't remember what it was. It was during the making of the Anthology.

It was about "A Hard Day's Night", actually. Paul says "I think George hated it, he was always tired" and George pipes in, saying "I don't know what *he's* talking about, I loved it! I just hated having to get up early..." or something like that.

Good ol' George. Too bad his album so far's shaping up to be pretty mediocre.

As for this Bill book...

Is it worth it? I'm thinking of going out and getting it, seeing as my parents pay for nothing of mine... except books. So I go down to my local bookshop, where they know and fear me, put many books on reserve, and let my parents come in and pick 'em up for me. I could be buying The Complete Experiences Of Anna Nicole Smith for all they know. But it's mostly just good old-fashioned book type books.

I mean, it's just Bill's recollection. He's gonna get upstaged next year when The Stones do the same thing. But Bill was the one that kept all the journals and so forth...

frankh how convincing.
i recommend the book to everyone else.

sasca Oh, I very much want to read it. Xyzzy, that's one example but I'm pretty sure there was also something which happened in Hamburg. (Incidentally, George is by far the best actor, isn't he?)

tumblingdice Haven't had the chance to read it yet but I feel I will be dissapointed for this reason.... Stone Alone was great and left off soon after Brian's death. I expected this next book to be the same and pick up from there and cover the 70's like the last book covered the 60's. Although he give info I don't think it is in as much detail as the last one like I have waited for years to get. In any event it has many great pics and should still be a good read.

kath oh, i'll get it when the price drops some. probably second hand like i did stone alone. i like that bill writes all the stuff down. the only thing i really didn't like about his first one was that he felt the need to tell us all about all the groupies he boinked. like anybody would have boinked him if he hadn't been a stone!! i really didn't think all that was necessary to tell us. but it's good historically for those interested in timelines, etc. i've been waiting for this second one for quite a while.i look forward to reading it.
