Steel Wheels Here's why. The opening act, The Fray, headlined a show last night in Philly. They had it scheduled for weeks and weeks, and I know someone who bought tickets for it Thursday.

Let me repeat that. She bought tickets Thursday for the 10/27 Fray show in Philly.

I told them about The Stones show, and she said Ticketmaster didn't mention anything about it when she bought the tickets. Fray fans were in the dark about them opening for the Stones as well.

This show was meant to be postponed to save up for the Beacon.

A big thanks to The Rolling Stones, Michael Cohl, and Martin Scorsese for fucking up my 30th Birthday celebration.

Have fun at the Beacon, lads. I sure as shit won't be there.

And Mick, Keith, Ronnie - you guys had better bring some fucking A+ game to the rescheduled AC gig. I want the best fucking show you can muster. Pretend it's for a documentary and I only paid 35 bucks a seat. I'll even wear a wrist band.

I want the following songs performed to me in tribute of my loyalty...and my bank account.

Rough Justice
Connection
Happy
Midnight Rambler
You Got Me Rocking
Loving Cup
Sweet Virginia

And I also want 22-23 songs. My bank account DEMANDS IT.

pdog At least you get to go back...
I flew out from Calif. and I knew last night my chances were slim at best, and now looking at my schedule, it's not going to happen. I get my refund, minus TM charges, are fucking fee to get mt refund and all my costs going out there.
Despite all that, I had a great time last night hanging with everyone and spent a really nice day with my Mom and Dad,together, which is rare since they've been divorced over 25 years.
Oh well...
The really good thing, I can't beleive how many people I hung with are going to The Beacon shows!

Gazza According to The Fray's website, they were scheduled to play BOTH the Stones gig and Philly the same night

see here : http://thefray.net/

Sorry your birthday got ruined - its not a pleasant way to find out your idols dont give a fuck about you.

Steady there, SW. There's nobody on the grassy knoll.
If the Stones were gonna play a shell game, they wouldn't
need to bring the opening act into it.

Just checked out The Fray's website.
They list two appearances for 10/27 - opening for the Stones in AC, and headlining the Electric Factory in Philly.
35-40 minutes in AC and a limo ride to Philly still would've had them on stage by 11.
As for Fray fans being in the dark, maybe they should check out the website of their heroes once in a while.

BTW, The Fray won't be the opener on 11/17.
They'll be in SF.

rollmops We had just checked in in our hotel in AC when we learned that the show was cancelled. I got those fucking and not awesome blues. It's hard. We were so excited. What a frigging bummer. Fuck that shit! I got wasted on champagne, Jack Daniels, red and white wine, vodka and beer. I danced like a maniac at the Gypsy bar and fell asleep at a slot machine spilling my last beer on the floor of the Borgata casino. I had to numb the pain in my little heart. Got a huge hangover saturday morning and drove back to DC.

Sir Stonesalot The Fray could easily play a short opener set in AC and then a full gig in Philly. It's only 45 minutes from Philly to AC. Not a problem to do both gigs.

Heck, some bands routinely play 2 gigs a night on weekends. Example. When I saw Bowie in Philly a few years back...the Polyphonic Spree opened up for him. Then they went and played a full show at the Electric Factory the same night. When you are touring in a van...every dollar counts. An extra show squeezed in means you don't have to eat at McDonalds for the next couple of days.

I know yer pissed off man. I don't blame ya. And yer hypothesis is correct. AC was gonna be postponed, and I'd guess they knew for at least a week that it would turn out that way. But it didn't have anything to do with The Fray(man they suck). They were just gonna pull a double payday.

Nope, it was the Scorsese filming the Beacon shows. They stand to make way more money from that than a single gig that they can make up later. Speaks volumes for what Stones Inc's priorities are though. We(fans)ain't even on the radar screen man.

Hey, look on the bright side.
You're getting another opportunity to enjoy half of last night's concert experience.

Granted, it's the wrong half...

I wish you were there. We were having fun...
After this, and knowing I could've stayed home if this band had class and gave a fuck about me. I'm done!
I should've followed in your footstapes...
They'll never fuck me like this again. It wasn't really that expensive of lesson, so it was worth tihs little education. I do not regret hanging out with everyone. So the price tag was really not there. I spent good money to see family and friends.
The Stones just lost a very loyal concert going fan, but I doubt they care...
If I lived closer, I would go to the make up show. At least I think i would... Everyone could get a refund if they wanted to, and damn that would send a fucking strong message... It's easy for me to say 3000 miles away. I do think they deserve it. We know we got suckered into showing up to a gig they never planned on playing last night. And they knew this at leat 5 days ago.
28th October 2006 04:28 PM
Nellcote There was once a band named the Rolling Stones, or as a cerain keyboard player used to refer to them as
"my litte three chord wonders", who, back in the day, routinely performed two shows a day.
Every wonder where the expression "Welcome to the breakfast show" had it's origins?
28th October 2006 04:29 PM
robpop I posted in another thread, that the casinos had a lot to do with the late announcement of the cancelled show. Sure, the Stones knew days in advance that they were not going to play, but the casinos wanted that "fresh meat" in town. That is why the announcement was made after everybody had shown up. The Stones did nothing to help out the fans either. They just played the game.

Nellcote Would those be the "whales" or, did they never get there?
Besides events such as this, who goes to AC anymore?
I would think that the CT indian tribe has about put the place on life support...

I was only in two casinos. And I've been gone from AC for a very long time. I do remember the casinos being way more crowded on a Friday night. The places were pretty dead IMO. I know there's alot of casinos around and Borgata is supposed to be the shit... Bally's was pretty dead and Showboat looked kinda weak too.
My Dad stays busy at Trop and my sister makes $500 a night tending bar at Borgaota, so somethings still jumping...
It did have the feel of being on life support...

Exactly why the announcement was not made until all the Stones fans were in town.

The Stones, as of this afternoon, are back at the Beacon doing some more rehearsals for tomorrow night

Anyone who cant draw the obvious conclusion from that really needs to take their head out of the band's arses.

Gazza It wasnt meant to be funny!

SW has always been very enthusiastic about his undying devotion to the Stones, and has took it a bit thick at times when some of us have been a bit more cynical about many of their motives

It's not a nice way to get a wake-up call. Lots of us have been there, but to get it on your birthday and on a day you're meant to see them play near where you live is a real kick in the teeth
28th October 2006 05:22 PM
Josephine I understand the necessity to cancel and/or postpone shows due to illness.
It's unfortunate, but it happens . . . . we all get sick now and then.
Cancelling a show due to piss-poor scheduling is inexcusable.
Doing so the day of the show when it is known days in advance is seriously f&cked up.
I really hope that's not the case.

I feel really, really sorry for the folks who were in AC thinking they were going to see a Stones show. Particularly those who travelled long distance.

I've got tickets for the Dodger Stadium show on the 18th and am now wondering how the rescheduled AC show is going to affect that.

I've also paid big money for front row seats to the Aloha Stadium show, have booked and paid for a flight, have reserved a room and car. I'm going to Hawaii for the show only: Flying in the day before and returning home the day after. To learn they were cancelling the show would be a huge disappointment. To be told about it the day of when they knew about the cancellation days before -- my dissapointment would be quickly replaced by my anger. I'd be EXTREMELY PISSED.

My heart goes out to those of you who missed out on the AC show.
Hopefully, you'll be able to return on the 17th.

HAAAAA!

Thanks for appealing to my warped sense of humor, then.

I feel VERY bad for anyone who expected to see the boyz last night, but shit happens. Mick's a pro and won't go on unless he can bring his A+ game to the show. We should be gratfeul for this, because, it wasn't always like that. (I was witness to Sir Sick Mick at JFK in '78 and, although it was thrilling to see the boyz, the performance was inspired too much by the Rebel Yell whisky consumed on stage by MJ).
28th October 2006 05:38 PM
Sir Stonesalot No, damn it. Don't go back on the 17th.

Cash in those tix. Let 'em play to an empty venue.

Hit 'em in the wallet...where it hurts 'em the most.

They don't give a flyin' fuck about us...so fuck 'em right back. Show 'em they can't keep shitting on their fans like that. Show them that they can't push us that far. Show 'em that we will not stand for this kind of fucked up bullshit.

Get your refunds people. It's the only language that Stones Inc. seems to understand anymore.

It's time to get a backbone folks. Draw the line in the sand. Get your money back, and don't let Stones Inc have it. Show them that Stones fans will not tolerate this kind of treatment.
28th October 2006 05:56 PM
mrhipfl I doubt they will play Atlantic City at all this tour. They're just trying to avoid telling that to the fans just yet. They won't play back to back nights, they haven't done that for a long time. It's the obvious choice for the stones to cancel: small venue, poor sales...what a pity.
28th October 2006 06:16 PM
glencar Hey all, I just got back from AC & I had a good time despite the bad news yesterday afternoon. When LJ called me, I thought someone had died. I did just pick up my Beacon ticket for tomorrow night(thanks Chevy!) and the young girl who was handing out these damned paper bracelets said that she was told yesterday at 2PM that they were to leave AC & return to NYC because the show was cancelled.
28th October 2006 06:19 PM
Sir Stonesalot Mick wasn't sick. I don't believe that for a second.

As of this very moment he's in NYC at the Beacon doing a rehearsal. So much for resting that "sore throat" huh?

Nope, ya'll was fucked without even getting so much as a kiss on the cheek.

Get a refund. Stay home on Nov. 17th. Make a point.
28th October 2006 06:23 PM
glencar Hey I made a bit at the blackjack table & got together with a bunch of fine people. Rescheduling this show isn't the worst thing that's ever happened in anyone's life. I'm not happy that they did it but life goes on.
28th October 2006 06:33 PM
SweetVirginia Blue...I'm making us all t-shirt that say
"Thanks for the Great Show in AC"
to wear to the Beacon.

Sorry I missed you last night.

glencar Yes, someone was supposed to introduce us but things got hectic at that Shidobeee party & so I'm very sorry to have missed you. I hope to get to the Beacon early tomorrow so as to get into the vibe before an ACTUAL show. I'm still a bit pissed about Mick's sore throat but I think all will be forgiven by tomorrow. Nice to get that extra hour of sleep tonight!
