Mr. D There's plenty out there...our boy Mick Taylor is horribly under-rated, I'd figure i'd add some others

Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop of the Butterfield Blues Band

Robby Kreiger of the Doors

Albert King AKA the greatest

These three come to mind and don't seem to get the credit they deserve.

Martin Barre

Steve Howe

Mick Ronson

Mathijs How can Taylor be underrated when he's named one of the best blues guitarists together with Clapton and Green, he then becomes the lead guitarist of the biggest band in the world, travels the world, earns millions of dollars and 30 years later people still have fiery discussions about you. I don't call that underrated.

Roy Buchannan -that's what I call underrated. One of the best guitarists ever, but sold exactly zero LP's, and never played anything bigger than a pub. Now he's dead, and suddenly people start to be interested.

Mathijs No, Taylor received just a tip for the entire 1972 tour. His house in the south of France of course was just a two-bedroom condo, and the Spider in front of it was a second-hand...

Gazza LOL. Great post.

**Mathijs was so angry that he developed a tremor in his right hand, forcing him to post 3 times and rendering him incapable of playing the guitar for a month**

Just because some of them are world famous, it doesn't mean they're thought of highly enough for their guitar playing.

I'd make the point that Keith Richards is an underrated guitarist. A lot of people just accossiate him with drink and drugs, but I think people forget that he has created some of the greatest riffs ever. I adore his lead work too. Some of these flashy players put me to sleep. They lack the raunchy sound that Keith possess.

wisertime Henry Vestine from Canned Heat, my favorite musician of all times. Saw him in 1997 one week before his death and he was still awesome.

jpenn11 Keith turns up fairly high in a lot of polls mentioned by folks on various boards.

Taylor on the other hand does not.

I think that is a good benchmark for whether someone is underrated or not. Having a record deal is another.

Boo Hoo, he's been dead for awhile so it ain't all of a sudden and he usually gets named to the great Tele players lists. Wonder how many Alligator LPs were sold, gotta be more than zero.

How bout Byther Smith?
