beer It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me
I sit and watch
As tears go by

My riches can't buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch
As tears go by

It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doin' things I used to do
They think are new
I sit and watch
As tears go by

Sir Stonesalot I like Marrianne Faithful's version.

I think her 60's sweet not-yet-drug-ravaged voice was perfect for the song.

That line about "watch the children play" cuts a little close to the bone, I guess .

Could somebody more "knowledgeble" than poor J.J.Flash, list some of Marianne's best songs?
Thank you.

kath it's a great song. i think i like marianne's version better (much as i love her "sister morphine" a lot more than the band's), but that may be because that was the one i heard first, and i remember her on "shindig" or "hullaballoo" lip syncing that song. she was so pretty and it was such a cool song....

gypsy I love Marianne's "Ballad of Lucy Jordan," but it makes me cry.
