Topic: Keith Richards scraps footpath plan Return to archive
10-23-03 10:43 PM
VoodooChileInWOnderl Rolling Stone Keith Richards has withdrawn proposals to divert a public footpath near his West Wittering home following an objection from the Open Spaces Society and a wave of national publicity.

Ironically, the scheme had strong local support and was originally put forward by Chichester Harbour Conservancy, with the idea of creating a more attractive path and a new cycle route through the area.

Open Spaces Society general secretary Kate Ashbrook said it opposed the change because it considered the existing route to be attractive, with wide views.

But harbour conservancy environmental manager Philip Couchman said the society had won nothing, and all it had achieved was the loss of some additional footpaths for walkers.
