Starbuck

after i write this, i am going to go take a dookie and finish the last twenty pages of this f&^%ing incredible WWII narrative. Sixteen years old & drafted into the Wehrmacht to go spend two and a half years on the eastern front. i have not been able to put it down except for to sleep, eat, masturbate and try on beatle wigs. my god, it should be required reading for US citizenship.

anyone have any suggestions as to what to pick up next?

lotsajizz Starbuck--Sajer's accounts should be taken with a grain of salt. Everything he wrote about occurred and more (just not all to him), but several researchers have noted his inaccuracies. His account appears to be a composite of the experiences of some of his comrades as well as his own. It still is a fantastic work, superbly written. I am published in this area so PM me if I can be of service in providing more information on this most violent episode in human history, so poorly understood by most in the West.

btw, I am reading Greenfield's 'Exile' book now...

SheRat I am now about 150 pages into this book:

It is pretty interesting to watch how the insular little world and pressures of "fame" are slowly destroying what, by all accounts, was a good-hearted dude.

I'm pretty into it--so much so that I had a dream about Col. Tom Parker last night.

This book and it's companion (Part One: Last Train to Memphis: The Making of Elvis Presley) have really helped me place Elvis in his rightful context. Before, I really didn't see why he was such a big deal, except that I thought he definitely was hot in the '68 Comeback Special.

Also, I am disappointed to find that Cybil Sheppard probably DID fuck him, which sucks, because I enjoyed calling her a bullshit artist regarding that claim.

Did you think a Stephen King novel would be a feel good story? I do agree that his endings are usually better than the one in Cell.

I'm currently reading the Dexter books by Jeff Lindsay. I'm addicted to the Showtime series that's based on the books. Finally, a serial killer I can really root for.

I used to really like Clancy's stuff. I got suckered into buying some of his Op-Center stuff but it is nowhere near the quality of his early novels (I think it's because that he doesn't write the novels himself -- if you look at the cover, it's always Tom Clancy & _________ ---someone else). It's like he is just trying to cash in on his name.

But if you do like Clancy's early style, I suggest the books of Vince Flynn (Mitch Rapp makes John Clark look like a pussy). I just bought his latest one Act of Treason --- so far I love what I am reading. Again, Vince Flynn comes highly recommended.

Paranoid_Android I am currently reading the ROCKS OFF bulliten board...there's alot of funny, insightful stuff in it...

The plot is basic, yet complex. This is due to the many love/hate relationships interwoven throughout the story.

The protaginists are a lagre anonymous group of fanatics with the antithesis being a group of 4 elders. I really am enjoying this read. I love it so much...I hope it never ends.
