Martha
You must be able to convert the original recording if it is in the PAL format to the NTSC format...do you have the technology? Otherwise, it won't play on American players if the recordings are in PAL because that makes it incompatible with the U.S. NTSC format. It will only be compatible IF you can convert it. Can you do so? Anyone?

steel driving hammer I saw a woman w/ a little video camera at Comisky but didn't take mine and I was close than close.

What a fool I was.

Marko, do you need some blank American dvd's?
Send me your address again (full address) I'll do it.

riffhard64 i have a digital sony mavica that i wanted to bring but was afraid security would snatch it and i could not afford to lose it..expensive cam...can do 60 sec movie clips..very cool...so im at Gilette show and see 3 different peoples with digi-cams...and i was so close...might get the nerve to try it in Jan at MSG or the Fleet...
10-23-02 02:01 PM
riffhard64 thanks again for the info Martha and Chris...does that help Marko?...can you convert??
10-23-02 02:30 PM
marko It helps a bit,i know i must video tapes onto ntsc,do i
have to do same thing on DVD`S?

And tony,we could test one disk, and one only, its bit risky.
But,maybe we should try it?

Btw i recorded NTSC video tape, straight onto DVD,i didnt
have to convert that tape on PAL,,,,they just went nicely
on dvd,no problem what so ever.
I think we need more info.

Quality of the vids is,EX,sound is EX on gillette,on
fleet is vg/vg+,,,picture is EX.

you can read about this here, few theards down, and also from
kenos board.

Sir Stonesalot Is there a toll free phone number to call for customer service? Or an email addy? You should try to contact the company that made your DVD recorder, they should be able to tell you.

It may be the blank DVD that determines where it will play.

I don't think NTSC or PAL comes into play at all. Those are VHS formats, and won't have anything to do with DVD.

My experience can confirm this, with a twist.

A good friend from Brazil sent me the Lets Spend the night Together DVD that was issued with a magazine over there (mine was not a copy). It specified clearly that the DVD was NTSC (the zoning was ALL so that was no problem). I have a playstation 2 for a DVD player which specifies it is PAL. So i put the DVD in and what comes up is a picture that is black and white and the frame is slightly down from the top of the screen. However...I used the same DVD player on a newer TV and it worked perfectly.
So all I can gather from that is that DVD players work irrespective of format differences despite what they report on the box/DVD case. But that TV's, if they a little older, may not permit it.

I know nothing of the technology and cannot garuntee this example will prove true for every DVD player/DVD, I'm just relaying what happened to me.

Clarification: I just realised on teh TV that worked I was running the DVD through my video which allows NTSC playback of tapes on a PAL TV.
This doesn't make anything anymore clearer, but gain, maybe it is of some value. But don't go out and buy anything on account of what I've just said! The last paragraph above is the thing, though.

marko Yeah i noticed that yesterday. When i record NTSC video tape
onto DVD,the dvd is "ntsc" disk, then,if i record a pal vhs
to dvd,its "pal" dvd then!!!So,it doesnt matter,is it pal
or ntsc.
But this matters all of you should check what area your
dvd player IS?? is it area 1,2 or all...mine is area 2.
This is all about the area.
10-24-02 08:19 PM
riffhard64 hey Marko....been told my DVD player is compatible with ALL areas,i sent you an e-mail to get your address so i can send B&P...cant wait to re-live these shows...thanks

egon with the normal dvd players it's only a question of regions (us 1, europe 2, etc)if your dvd player is multi regional,
it will play all pre-recorded/"official" dvds.
(the region thing is only a protection code and not a specific system.)

but you will need to have a tv that can 'procces' the ntsc or pal signal. with most newer tvs that's not a problem as they usually have "multi system".

it's different with dvd burners, as there are different systems on the market.

some only play & record one system, while others burn one way, but can play all systems.

i think sony and philips who are in it together, have the best system when it comes to recording and they play all other systems.

cheers
