Faith Hill can't dethrone The King
By JOHN WILLIAMS -- JAM! Showbiz

Faith Hill was the latest challenger to suffer defeat at the hands of The King on the Canadian album charts.

The crossover country music star's album "Cry" debuted in third on sales of 19,900, behind Elvis Presley's Elvis: 30 No. 1 Hits" (25,600), which remained in the No. 1 position for the fourth week in a row, according to Nielsen SoundScan Canada.

The Rolling Stones' "Forty Licks" (21,000) remained in second.

Napanee skater-pop queen Avril Lavigne jumped a notch to fourth with her smash debut "Let Go" (13,200), Diana Krall's "Live In Paris" (10,700) slipped a spot to fifth and Bon Jovi's "Bounce" (8,500), which debuted in third last week, sank to sixth.

Eminem's "The Eminem Show" (8,400) held steady in seventh, Nelly's "Nellyville" (7,800) rose one spot to eighth, the compilation "Now!7" (7,100) fell from sixth to ninth and pop/classical artist Josh Groban's self-titled debut (7,000) remained at No. 10.

Child of the Moon To paraphrase Bill Wyman, in 25X5...

"On Saturn? Well, we're #1. Yeah... we have been, for four or five months now."

Boomhauer Well, seeing that Nirvana has a release this coming Tuesday, the STones will probably keep dropping instead of rising.

Of course it will drop....it's doing very well, but it has peaked...it won't hit #1...most albums peak at their debut spot since the Soundscan era began....just like movies peak in their opening week most of the time....sales didn't decline very much over the past week, so that's a good sign...LICKS will sell consistently for the duration of the tour with a big boost at Christmas and in January with the HBO special....probably hovering around the top 20 for the durationof the tour..if it sells an average of 50,000 copies a week through the end of the year...with the usual big sales at Christmas, it'll easily sell two million+ by tour's end....

Boomhauer Yeah, that's pretty damn good.

jb It is pretty good for a stomes album..but lets face it, this album should have sold over 10 million copies..this is the greatest songs by the greatest rock group of all time...Obviously, we live in a clueless society when crap like elvis, Beatles, and the like sell tens of millions of albums..
10-24-02 02:39 PM
stonesmik They have sold their songs already so many times to us and we have bought them again again again and again. They will sell them again, we will buy them again. What does the title or the chart position of the compilation matter?
10-24-02 02:46 PM
jb Don't you want to shout, "We're #1"...I want to be a winner..I want my band to be #1..it is a reflection of all of us as stonesfans...we need validation!
10-24-02 02:57 PM
stonesmik There's nothing to discuss or validate. I KNOW the Stones are best.

I don't have to prove anything to fans of Faith Hill or U2 or whothefuck. The fate of these poor suckers is hard enough already.
10-24-02 03:01 PM
jb Mik...a # 1 this late in the game surely would have beyond a doubt, solidified the Stones as greatest rock group of all time...we lost to Elvis by 23k fucking albums!!! Why, Why?..

stonesmik hey, I'm sure they WILL have another no. 1, if it's not the next studio album then it will be the one after the next one. They just gotta get it together. At least here in Switzerland they had no. 1 studio albums with "Dirty work" (1986) and "Voodoo lounge" (1994) and that's not so long ago. They haven't released too many studio albums since then.

Also looking at the charts - is it so special having an album with 30 no. 1 hits at no. 1 while a double album with only 7 (UK) no. 1 hits is at no. 2? There is only one King (saleswise). And the guy is DEAD since more than 20 years! You can't beat that one (saleswise). Looking at it like this the Stones chart performance is FUCKING GOOD! Keith has admitted he is very fond of Elvis (not only his no. 1 hits but especially the Sun sessions, of course).

Calling the Beatles and Elvis "crap" is as clueless as it gets...it amazes me how people like you can like the Stones and still have shitty taste in music...you sound like an immature, know nothing N'Synch fan
