In case you wondered, Paul McCartney didn't vote for his own song. Instead, he picked "Heartbreak Hotel" as his No. 1 choice, telling Uncut, "It's the way [Presley] sings it as if he is singing from the depths of hell. His phrasing, use of echo, it's all so beautiful. Musically, it's perfect." The highest-ranking TV show was "The Prisoner" at No. 10 and the top-rated book was Jack Kerouac's novel "On the Road" at No. 19.

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payin' my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land

I'm on the highway to hell

Baby Got Back

Oh my god, Becky, look at her butt
It is so big
She looks like one of those rap guys girlfriends
Who understands those rap guys
They only talk to her because she looks like a total prostitute, ok?
I mean her butt
It's just so big
I can't believe it's so round
It's just out there
I mean, it's gross
Look, she's just so black

I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waste
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up front
Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that butt you got
Me so horny
Ooh, rub all of that smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my Benz
Well use me, use me cuz you ain't that average groupy

I've seen them dancin'
The hell with romancin'
She sweat, wet, got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette

I'm tired of magazines
saying flat butt's the only thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back, so

Fellas (yeah), fellas (yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt
Baby got back

(LA face with Oakland booty)

I like'em round and big
And when I'm throwin' a gig
I just can't help myself
I'm actin like an animal
Now here's my scandal

I wanna get you home
And ugh, double ugh, ugh
I ain't talkin' bout Playboy
Cuz silicone parts were made for toys
I wannem real thick and juicy
So find that juicy double
Mixalot's in trouble
Beggin' for a piece of that bubble
So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Watchin' these bimbos walkin' like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
A word to the thick soul sistas
I wanna get with ya
I won't cus or hit ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna fuck
Til the break of dawn
Baby, I got it goin on
A lot of pimps won't like this song
Cuz them punks like to hit it and quit it
But I'd rather stay and play
Cuz I'm long and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on

So ladies (yeah), ladies (yeah)
If you wanna role in my Mercedes (yeah)
Then turn around
Stick it out
Even white boys got to shout
Baby got back

(LA face with the Oakland booty)

Yeah baby
When it comes to females
Cosmo and got nothin to do with my selection
36-24-36
Only if she's 5'3"

So your girlfriend rolls a Honda
Playin' workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda
My anaconda don't want none unless you've got buns hon
You can do side bends or sit-ups, but please don't lose that butt
Some brothers wanna play that hard role
and tell you that the butt need to go
So they toss it and leave it
And I pull up quick to retrieve it
So Cosmo says you're fat
Well I ain't down with that
Cuz your waste is small and your curves are kickin'
And I'm thinkin' bout stickin'
To the beanpole dames in the magazines
You ain't it Miss Thang
Give me a sista I can't resist her
Red beans and rice didn't miss her
Some knucklehead tried to dis
Cuz his girls were on my list
He had game but he chose to hit 'em
And pulled up quick to get with 'em
So ladies if the butt is round
And you wanna triple X throw down
Dial 1-900-mixalot and kick them nasty thoughts
Baby got back

the good Why is like a Rolling Stone winning every one of these polls? I love Dylan, but something is fishy here.
October 23rd, 2005 01:09 PM
Sir Stonesalot >Why is like a Rolling Stone winning every one of these polls?<

Man, that song changed EVERYTHING. That song changed ALL the rules. After "Like A Rolling Stone", the sky was the limit. That's why it wins, that's why it'll keep winning, and that's why it will always deserve to win. Keep in mind, the catagory isn't Best Song...it's top ten songs that changed the world.

Here's my top 10:

1. Like A Rolling Stone--Bob Dylan
2. Rock Around The Clock--Bill Haley & The Comets
3. Cross Roads Blues--Robert Johnson
4. I Want To Hold Your Hand--The Beatles
5. Hound Dog--Elvis
6. Anarchy In The UK--The Sex Pistols
7. Rappers Delight--Sugar Hill Gang
8. Smells Like Teen Spirit--Nirvana
9. Like A Virgin--Madonna
10. Interstellar Overdrive--The Pink Floyd

Your list looks pretty good to me if based on "changed" the world goes. Maddonna? Yeah,I get you're coming from here, but that still looks strange to me! LOL! I would also go with Heartbreak Hotel over Hounddog, but that's because I always considered HBH to be Elvis' best tune. So much emotion is conveyed by him on that tune, and I always felt that his cover of Hound Dog was a bit too novelty songish for my tastes. However,it did shake things up back in the day to be sure. His version of it on Ed Sullivan is rock and roll history 101. Again, though it also points out the "novelty" of the song. I mean he was singing to a bassethound afterall!

As for "Like A Rolling Stone". Absolutly this tune should be on top of this list. It did change everything. Including the notion that a "pop" song had to clock in at under three minutes. After LARS came out the whole recording industry took notice and allowed lopnger songs to be considered for singles. I would go so far as to say if that Dylan song would not have been met with the success that it did we may not have seen Sympathy For the Devil become a single.

Another song that should be on that list is the Pistols-God Save the Queen. Much like Teen Spirit changed the direction of music in the 90's the same could be said for this song in the 70s. It also helped usher in the Stones' last brilliant album.

Yeah, that's a good point. At least satisfaction made it in there.

I thought the Basset Hound thing was on the Steve Allen Show? Wasn't the Sullivan Show where they only shot him from the belly up, and he had on the shiney jacket?
October 23rd, 2005 02:14 PM
Riffhard Yes I do believe you maybe right. The point still stands though. As much as I love the song I still always thought of it as Elvis' "My Ding-a-ling". For shame that Berry's only number one hit was an homage to his cock! Of course as it turns out that may have been very appropriate! LOL!

Sir Stonesalot I hear ya Riffy...but if Hound Dog doesn't hit...Heartbreak Hotel never gets air. Same deal with Anarchy vs God Save The Queen.

It seems a shame to leave Johnny B Goode, Tutti Fruity, or Great Balls Of Fire off the list...but in the context of the question, there's not much choice.

I'm kicking myself for leaving out Slade's "Come On Feel the Noise". Without that we might never have had that great hair/glam band revival of the 80's.....

Geesh what the fuck would Kevin Dubrow had ever done without that song! Slade is the godfather of Hair Metal! I wonder if that fact disturbs them?

Being Quite Riot, they had to change the name of the song to "Cum" on Feel the Noise. How very rock and roll of them!

That's very similar to mine, except I had "Talk Dirty To Me" in the Poison slot, and instead of the Mac Davis song (great as it is) I had Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey". "See the tree, how big it's grown, but friend, it hasn't been too long...it wasn't big..."

Bravo Ian!

Wait...there's no Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass on that list!
