I never realized this, but these are the lyrics to a very popular traditional Mexican mariachi song! Ha! Funny!

EL REY (THE KING)

Music and Lyrics by José. Alfredo Jiménez

Yo sé bien que estoy afuera,
pero el día que yo me muera,
sé que tendrás que llorar.
Llorar y llorar, llorar y llorar.

(roll and roll)
rodar y rodar, rodar y rodar..(roll and roll, roll and roll)
Después me dijo un arriero
que no hay que llegar primero
pero hay que saber llegar.

Con dinero y sin dinero
hago siempre lo que quiero
y mi palabra es la ley.
No tengo trono ni reina,
ni nadie que me comprenda,
pero sigo siendo el rey.

THE KING
Translation © 2004 by Jacob Lubliner

I know well that I don't matter,
But the day I die you'll shatter
And then you'll cry over me.
You'll cry over me, you'll cry over me.
You'll say you never did love me,
But you'll feel sad thinking of me,
And that's how you'll always be.

With my pockets full or empty,
I just do whatever's tempting,
And the law is what I say.
I have no throne and no queen,
And no one knows what I mean,
But the king I always stay.

From a stone along the highway
I learned that my fate and my way,
Was just to roll and to roll.
To roll and to roll, to roll and to roll.
Then I heard from an old mule driver:
There's no need to be first arriver,
Just to know how to reach your goal.

With my pockets full or empty,
I just do whatever's tempting,
And the law is what I say.
I have no throne and no queen,
And no one knows what I mean,
But the king I always stay.

VoodooChileInWOnderl Again gorda, congratulations but this is again old in the Stones community in Spanish, and it's easy to see, just go to BdP http://rocksoff.org/foro and find any message by ssimbrera
(there's a search tool on top)I and check his signature

Again, as I said in the other thread in a friendly way, I don't have doubts you also discovered it, but is very old here in Mexico as both JAJ and the RS are popular
October 22nd, 2005 08:28 PM
glencar Does this song that was cited have some relevance to the RS?

Neither relevance nor relation as the song is from the 40s or 50s, José Alfredo was born in 1926

The funny thing here is the coincidence on the lyrics being completely unrelated

VoodooChileInWOnderl Gorda check this thread, see the date and read smimbrera's signature http://rocksoff.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1243&highlight=

Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess the expression or the term "rolling stone" is an old one.

P.S. How does that other expression in Spanish go?

Las piedras rodando se encuentran.

(The rocks rolling find each other.)

Something like that.

VoodooChileInWOnderl Hi Gorda (promise not to say Gordita again but I did it in good will as it's a nice way to call a gorda)

"Las piedras rodando se encuentras" yeah... That's another song by "El Tri" a band formed at my school and current friends some of them, now known as the Mexican Rolling Stones

The term "Rolling Stone" is even older than Muddy Waters and his grand-grand parents. "A rolling stone gather no moss"

No, here the right transaltion is "the stones are rolling" as "Se encuentran" here is like saying "they are" not an "encounter"
