Topic: I met Ronnie tonight at the London Book Signing Return to archive
16th October 2007 04:17 PM
Ade Waterstones Bookshop,
Picadilly,
London
6pm

joined the queue outside Waterstones Bookshop, in Picadilly at approx 4.15pm.

There was already quite a queue formed outside.
I was promptly given a rafle ticket to join the queue, but firstly i had to go into the shop, purchase the book, then come back outside, and rejoin the queue.
My ticket was number 91.

Soon the queue behind me stretched back a good 100 yards... before long
Paulywaul, Beast, MOWAT etc, etc,(usual London contingent) rocked up and joined the ever-growing masses.

Shortly after 6pm, Jo Wood walked past the queue, all smiles, into the store, and about this time, the queue started to move.
The staff were allowing batches of 20 people, in at a time....at 7pm, it was my turn.
We were escorted up to the first floor, to join a new queue.
We were informed that Ronnie would only be signing copies of the book.

no posed photographs
no merchandise signing

there was a strong Stones security prescence, staff made us open our books at the "correct" page...'post it notes' indicated who the dedication was for.

All baggage had to kept behind a roped off area, 10 foot back from the desk...photos of Ronnie were permitted from behind the rope, but there was so many bouncers/security present, you'd need to have been lucky to have got a decent snap...not worth the hassle.

My time came...i was ushered up to the signing desk.
Ronnie was wearing a black blazer, was sipping a cup of tea and looked in rude health... good old Ronnie!
I asked him a couple of questions and got the stock answer for the day:-
"i'm still getting over/resting up from the summers tour"
(same answer to the 4-5 people infront of me that i could hear)

within 20-30 seconds, it was all over.... i shook his hand and went about my merry way, a happy fan with my book signed.
A long,drawn out 3 hours..but well worth it.
Thanks Ronnie

16th October 2007 04:34 PM
Ade lol - yeah he signed

firm shake of the hand, big beaming smile, big hair,
sipping his cup of Rosie-Lee

the queue stretched back miles... i hope he signed for as many as poss before he pushed off

16th October 2007 05:10 PM
mrhipfl I once had a really weird dream that I met Ronnie. In the dream I gave him my guitar and asked him to teach me some new stuff. He said sure, and took my guitar and started to do magic tricks with it, eventually making it disappear...I woke up and was like WTF??
16th October 2007 05:20 PM
PartyDoll MEG Happy for you Adrian..

I have one question...Is it a wig????
16th October 2007 05:28 PM
Ade the hair is very shiny, big and lacquered.

16th October 2007 05:33 PM

16th October 2007 06:03 PM
GotToRollMe Good on ya, Ade! Thanks for posting - I was wondering what the drill was gonna be. I'm thinking of hitting the NY signing too.
16th October 2007 06:28 PM
LastChild Cool Ade!

Im going to try to go to the book signing in NYC as well. I guess getting there early is a must.

Anyone know the address for that B&N?
16th October 2007 06:28 PM
fireontheplatter great story
i am planning on going to the nyc book signing.
i had like 4 really cool things for him to sign, but my hopes were dashed after reading that story.
i guess i'll just have to buy 3-5 copies of the book to send as x mas gifts then.

17th October 2007 12:23 AM
glencar Did Ronnie sign only one book per customer? I will probably not be able to make it to the NYC signing as I have a major operation 2 days before.

17th Street between Broadway and Park.
17th October 2007 01:05 AM
LastChild oh, thats a pretty easy location.

thanks GTRM!
17th October 2007 01:41 AM
Ade it was a limit of 2 books per person...
although someone up ahead of me did manage to get 3 copies signed.
17th October 2007 04:57 AM
jostorm "within 20-30 seconds, it was all over.... "

...makes it sound like really bad teenage sex.....

I, for one, won't buy it. There is very little left to "say" after all these years, and books by ghost writers for celebrities suck, whether it's the Stones or not.
We live in depressing times in which Jordan with her overblown fake tits actually sells many times more copies of her autobiography than the top five writers on the Booker list....They should create a new department within Waterstones and other so-called bookshops dedicated solely to celebrity books. I suggest "Faecal Material The Masses Can't Get Enough Of" for it...

Fabio Hot Stuff Whaoo, you lucky guy!!!
Good story.
But what book had signed?
New draws??
ACH, I wish was there
