pavlovs dog After nearly 10 years I am going back to NYC to see the January 20th show at the Garden.

I'm Shattered, my mind's in tatters.

I can hardly wait. I fly in Thursday night to JFK (R/T airfare $ 126.40). I'll take the Airtrain ($ 5.00) to Howard Beach and catch the A Train all the way to Columbus Circle. I'm staying at the Weat Side Y ($ 85.00/ night [shared bath]). As soon as I'm checked in, I'll be back on the subway down to W4th St. I'll come up the stairs walk up the street a few blocks and say:

"Hey, what am I doing standing here on the corner of
West 8th Street and 6th Avenue?"

And then I'll Get up, get out, get into something new (or something old). Probably pizza at John's,wander Bleecker, W8th, Broadway, Lafayette Pl, Astor Place. When I'm tired I'll head to Times Square and see if there's any sex stores left from the good old days (Show World, Playland, etc.). I'll pull some tits, then grab some beers and crash.

Friday I'll get up, maybe head down to ground zero, just to see it. I'll take the R or N to Canal and walk through Chinatown over to Ludlow/ Houston and eat Pastrami at Katz's.

Then depending on mood and time I'll do one of the following:

Scenario #1)I'll then grab the F train to Coney island to check out the new Stillwell ave Terminal and walk to boardwalk. I'll come back on the D Train all the way to probably 34th. If I have time I might do a little shopping for my wife and kids. By then I'll be ready to go back to the Hotel (1,2,3 or 9 to Columbus Cir) and shower and change for the show.

OR

Scenario #2) I'll drink at some cool bars on 2nd Ave until dinner. Then I'll eat at one of my favorite Indian Restaurants on E 6th st between 1 & 2 Aves. Then take the F to 34th St.

Then The Stones AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm guessing watering holes to follow; Mustang Sally's or the Chelsea Hotel, a cab ride to the hotel and a flight out Saturday morning.

Saint Sway that is a brilliant game plan!!!

from now on I will be consulting you when planning my itinerary for any future trips

thanks

texile wouldn't that funny?
a broadway stage production of exile.....
all we need is a yoko in the stones lexicon.....
and the death of keith.
October 18th, 2005 03:57 PM
Saint Sway Textile, you need to be me more careful about what you post. We dont want to give Sir Mick any more bad ideas!!!

Seriously! And on today - of all days - just after they debuted a video on a Soap Opera! Good lord! Think about it.... Broadway is next!!!

shit! Mick is probably speed dialing Elton John right now trying to get in touch with Broadway producers.

DUDE! What a brilliant Fucking idea!If they can make a musical based on Abba tunes why not one based on Exile?
I could only imagine the Stage production for Shine A Light the part where Mick sings:

"Angels beating all their wings in time,
With smiles on their faces and a gleam right in their eyes.

Whoa, thought I heard one sigh for you,
Come on up, come on up, now, come on up now."

p.s. thanks for hijacking my post- this was supposed to be about my triumphant return to NYC!

pdog Don't make such big plans. Be fluid. It's NYC and alot of folks will be there...
Porn is always good. Gets the girls either pissed off or really hot!!! So you know where you stand!
Save the vomit for NYC, I love the smell of piss, puke and food!

ahhh, the smell of piss, puke and food! Add a little bus exhaust and the sound of ambulance sirens and I'm on 8th Ave.

I plan to try and go without much sleep so count me in for at least part of it. I can also lead tours, am good at hailing cabs and know the subways. 10 years ago tits were $ 2.00/ window and pussy was $ 3. When we hook up remind me to tell you a story about live girls on stage
October 18th, 2005 11:31 PM
pavlovs dog I've been studying the subway map on the NYC Transit Authority website. Apparently they've changed the routes for the D,Q & B trains in Bklyn and also they have discontinued the 9 train in Manhattan. I will be studying the system and revising my itinerary within a few weeks. (With a Government grant I could speed up the process to a few days)

Anyone have a current copy of Screw Magazine? I don't want to take my porno for granted. I'd like to know what joints are still open (I know they've cleaned up alot of Times Square, I just hope there's a few vestiges of seediness over on 8th Ave around the PABT. Anyone know if Smith's Bar is still at 44th/8th Ave It would be a shame if that Hell's kitchen Irish bar was gone!

Dog,

I live in Hell's Kitchen. Smith's is still there and cheap. The area's been spruced up quite a bit but some of the more notorious Irish bar's are still trenched in - and proud to say unchanged - still down & dirty. Smith's, Rudy's , McHale's and Dave's Tavern are still going dark and dingy. Rudy's recently added a beer fridge and a color tv. Their 1st "renovations" in 40 yrs. But the beers still cheap, the booths are still held together with duck tape, the place reaks and the hot dogs and baloney sandwiches are still on the house.

a lot of the porn shops have closed down. The really notorious one across from PABT - Peep World - is now The Laugh Factory. No joke. Show Worlds still on 8th. There's some new ones in but they look all clean and shiny like Blockbuster or something.

all in all, Hell's Kitchen is still the coolest neighborhood in NYC. And the last with any real remnants of old NY. Its been glossed over and cleaned up but theirs still a stench of that good old Hells Kitchen seediness and danger in certain spots.

I used to spend a lot of time in the Kitchen. As a cabbie I used to park in the taxi parking spots on the west side of the street around 45-46 sts. I used to hang in Smith's at night, there was a great bartender named Paul, a thin irishman with blonde hair who had a great sense of humor, twinkle in his eye and always rememebered my name. I also used to frequent Show World and the various incarnations of Playland that used to be on the south side of 42nd about halfway between 7th & 8th but then moved to 43rd or 44th? I preferred feeling the girls to just looking at them at ShowWorld but I liked to spread my money. Many a night I got my rocks off and then grabbed a Budweiser or Mickey's and hit the Subway to zone out (usually the 7 or the Brooklyn bound N or R at night- lots of times I ended up at 95th St/ Bay Ridge and used to drink and look at the Verrazanos bridge or hot a couple of bars before heading back. Muy whole lifestyle then was a big homage to Travis Bickle and to think I've survived!

As far as I'm concerned my two favorite neighborhoods in the city are Hell's Kitchen/ 8th Ave and the East Village 1st/ 2nd Aves, even though I lived on E 6th between B & C and then E 5th A/ B.

maybe we can together for a drink when I'm in town in January for the MSG show. It'll be about 10 years since i've been in the city and i've got time to make up for.

agreed. Basically the dive bars I frequent are either in those 2 neighbs. 4th Street Bar & McSwiggins on 2nd Ave are the 2 best juke boxes in NYC. Swig's has so much cool Stones.

in Hells Kitchen I'm all about The Gaf, Rudys and Collins Bar.

My hands are clean, real clean-just like my conscience, but to assuage any anxieties you may have I'll stop at The PABT and wash with plenty of soap before we drink. I'll be keeping Handi-Wipes in my pocket for the girls....

when you get a minute send me an e-mail: [email protected]. I'll give you some info to get ahold of me.

And the doctors says you'll be okay
And if you'd only stay away
From femme fatales and dirty bitches
And daylight drabs and nightime witches
And working girls and blue stockings
And dance hall babes and body poppers
And waitresses with broken noses
Checkout girls striking poses
And politicians' garish wives
With alcoholic cunts like knives
