Naked John Lennon Tops Magazine Cover Poll
Hugging Yoko Ono...

A photograph featuring a naked John Lennon embracing Yoko Ono has been voted as the best American magazine cover of the past 40 years.
The picture was taken by Annie Leibovitz for The Rolling Stone magazine and was published a month after his death in October 1980.
The image was voted for top gong picked by a panel of editors, artists and designers.
Elsewhere, Demi Moore’s famous pregnant snap came in second place and a 1968 image of Mohammed Ali with arrows in his body came third, reports the BBC.
A 1969 picture of a soup can by Andy Warhol for Esquire magazine came fifth.

If I'm not mistaken, the interview which was included within the issue of Rolling Stone was written on 05 December, with the photo being shot on 08 December, the day John was shot. |
