Finally.

Gazza Yes, I saw this before going to bed last night and was up most of the night being violently sick

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6055938.stm

and to think that I used to think that going by the previous inductees this HOF idea had some credibility. Then they fucked up and let the great unwashed masses and their appalling taste loose on it.

They should have quit after last year while they were still ahead.

You know what they say about judging a man by the company he keeps. I hope the Stones and Dylan submit letters asking to be removed in protest.

I think the word "at" is wrong. I don't think she's going to be there.

That's what my little friends and myself running around the Plains of Nebraska with knickers on and stick ball bats in our hands used to call "Postin'!"

You're POSTIN' baby!

The Joey - As seen on the reality show "That's Postin'!", 10:00 PM CDT Sundays.

Sir Stonesalot Gazza...I know how much this news must upset you.

So to soothe those frayed nerves, here is a little present for you. Just go to your happy place and forget all about this Bon Jovi nonsense.

I think its a public vote now, thats the trouble. They initially had a committee which had 'founder members' from each decade since the 50's (so Elvis and the Beatles were in the first group) and the same year there was a public vote for the first inductees (the Stones won the category for acts who began in the 60's, Dylan was added last year).

Like most polls, the first couple of nominees would be obvious, but unfortunately for those with good taste, Bon Jovi started their career in a decade (the '80's) where memorable and lasting new acts were at an all time low, so after the likes of U2 and Madonna get inducted to represent that decade, youre scraping the barrel pretty quick (especially when you see that the likes of Led Zeppelin are only getting inducted this year and Springsteen hasnt made it in yet. The problem with starting your career in a decade where there was a lot of quality, popular acts)

Thank you, my friend - I believe this is "golden oldies" day or something in your YouTube porn week? My favourite era. I'm relying on you for some great 'golden age' vixens. If Christy Canyon or Seka arent there, I'll be sorely disappointed!

Unlike the Hall of Shame, this is one poll where the public may indeed be a bunch of wankers but they still have good taste!

jb I am not going ot say "I told you so", but off course, I did. Bon Jovi is widely more appreciated in the UK than the Stones. I understand they have more radio play time, and make what others call good pop music, but to bestoe this honour upon , essentially a left-over "hair" band from the 80's, and show total contempt for their native sons, clearly is an act so egregious, that we can only send our deepest condolences to Gazza and other UK'ers humiliated by this.

yep..thats why the Stones topped the inaugural poll two years ago in a category with more competition (the 60's) that any other decade, and pulling in more votes than anyone....

Sir Stonesalot Gaz...I moved Blast From the Past Day back until later in the week.

Seka does not have a MySpace page...at least not that I could find. Christy will be there though. Marilyn Chambers too.

Why is Bon Jovi having such a suceeful remergence? By the late 90's they were kind of washed up...but they continued to release a few albums and off course their pop tunes got air-play. I guess that is what has hurt the Stones so muc-they simply have not released any songs that have had significant airplay since 'Love is strong".
17th October 2006 11:03 AM
Gazza Beats me. theyve always been popular as fasr as I can tell, though

You cant compare their popularity to that of the Stones as theyre a generation younger - theyre more marketable to a MTV generation and their music is more in tune with what passes for the MOR excuse for 'rock' thats prevalent on the radio. Bands in their 50s and 60's dont have hit singles because theyre too old and ugly to get on TV. Simple as that.

Not going for several years between records and charging affordable prices helps (their ticket prices here were something like £40-50 whereas the Stones were charging an average of double that, with a range of £40 to £150)

Most music fans arent diehards and will switch their attention to something else when a band is inactive or 'excludes' them because their tickets are too expensive. I dont think some people fully grasp how much those two factors have all but eradicated the Stones' younger fanbase in the last five or six years.

Sir Stonesalot Joey...

Remember back in the 'Nam, those brief periods in between patrols. All those hours spent at Mr. Chu's Pooney House?

"Hey GI fukee sukee ten dolla, we boom boom long time...."

And then you'd whip it out for them, and they'd giggle and point, and then they'd give you a 50% "teenyweeny" discount...

Those were the days...and this chick wasn't there either, but her mom probably was.

Not really, as "we" were elected in 2004! All this 'proves' is that Bon Jovi were 'better' than Five Star, Duran Duran, T'Pau, Soft Cell and other such luminaries who also got their start in pop music's least interesting and innovative decade

A case of being damned with faint praise.
