Mick and Rod, standing in the shadows of love

When it comes to rock stardom, Rod Stewart and Sir Mick Jagger may consider themselves to be head and shoulders above the rest. Try telling that to their girlfriends.
The veteran singers ventured out this week, only to face the usual problem of being overshadowed by their respective lovers.
Outside the Dorchester Hotel in London, Stewart posed with Penny Lancaster, his statuesque 6ft 1in partner. The tip of his famous nose was barely above her shoulder. As for Sir Mick's willowy girlfriend L'Wren Scott, her 6ft 4in frame meant she frequently had to talk down to him as they strolled down a Paris street.
But then height has always been a talking point with both men, given their longstanding preference for tall ladies. Only last week it emerged that Sir Mick is having the floor lowered in the basement beneath his flat by ten inches to give 38-year-old Miss Scott - once named the woman with the longest legs in Britain - plenty of headroom.
The 61-year-old singer, who stands at 5ft 8in, splashed out £490,000 on the flat below his home in Richmond, South West London, before submitting his plans to the local council.
Stewart's official height of 5ft 11in has always been regarded as somewhat optimistic. But Miss Lancaster, who has been dating the 59-year-old star for five years, stands up for him on the issue.
'I'm fed up with pictures which make me look a giant and Rod look a dwarf,' the 33-year-old model said in one interview. 'He's actually 5ft 11in, whereas I'm over 6ft and always wear very high heels.'
