LOL not ours
CHRIS JAGGER (yes, he is the brother of Mick and, no, he isn't enthusiastic about talking about it), says: "I've always been into New Orleans kind of stuff."
And Chris, who appears with his Cajun Cowboys band at this weekend's Bury Louisiana Festival, adds: "So when I was thinking about what you might call a comeback record 10 years or so ago, it seemed to me that the form of cajun and zydeco, which was by no means as familiar as guitar-based rock and blues, offered an idiom which you could explore, without slavishly churning out cover versions, that would still be exciting and different at least to our ears over here.
"After all, you can't do much in rock that hasn't been virtually defined years ago by The Beatles and The Stones," he observes mischievously.
"The fact that it's not associated with Mick so there wouldn't be the endless comparisons was in the back of my mind a bit, obviously, but it was inspired by a real love and respect for the music."
Chris and his band support Jessie Lege and Zigazag at Friday's opening concert of the Festival, devoted to a celebration of the birthplace of jazz, Dixieland, Cajun and zydeco.
The show begins at 8pm at Bury Met, Market Street (12) while the Peninsula Jazzmen are on stage elsewhere in the building from 7.30pm (6).
Saturday, The Boat Band, Joe Le Taxi and Elvis Fontenot and The Sugar Bees play from 2pm (6-10), while Cory McAuley and his Evangeline Aces, Z-Funk and The Bon Temps Playboys play from 8pm (15).
Sunday's festivities begin with Bellaroots and Zyderythmics from 1pm (6-10) and the climactic concert, beginning at 8pm and priced at 15, features Roscoe Chenier, cousin of the Cajun great Clifton, supported by R. Cajun And the Zydeco Brothers and the bluegrass country blues of Emily Druce.

If the Stones avoid Dixieland it's the chance for Chris Jagger to show profile. |
