BRMC has just released a classic!
Indeed it is very different from their first albums, but this one beats the previous ones.
I strongly advise everybody to buy this outstanding record! |

Eh. It's certainly better than their last album. But there is no "Whatever Happened To My Rock And Roll" on it - and I don't mean "there is no kickass grunge/punk thrasher with a long, drawn-out coda" because that wouldn't fit on the album. There're just no songs on here where I go "shit, that's a fantastic song" like I do on records by, say, The White Stripes.
The closest I come on Howl is "Gospel Song," though, which is fucking beautiful, but there's something about the production that I don't like at all. They're very fond of putting a thick sheen of fuzz over everything, like they're recording in a fog or something. It works for their louder songs, but these are by and large acoustic numbers. Apart from "Weight Of The World" it doesn't really work.
EDIT: I hear live they're fucking fantastic, though. Still haven't seen them. Confirm/deny?

Saw them at a festival some years ago, very impressive - grooved very well. Then got some of their studio stuff, but it couldn't match that live experience, or maybe I was just unable to catch that mood. |

They are indeed. I saw them live twice in 2002 and 2003. They put on a fantastic show. You simply must catch them live! |

They reminded me a bit of the Jesus & Mary Chain live... W/o the crazy feedback and noise.... |
