Topic: Talk Is Cheap - how good is it? Return to archive

Ronnie Richards Well, it's fucking great. And it's better than any stones album since exile.

Cocaine Eyes And so is Main Offender. Both are as good as Exile.

texile i love it - but its just grooves.....
wandering spirit kicks its ass.....

PeerQueer Wandering Spirit is a fantastic album.

Talk is Cheap is very solid, though not the album Spirit is.

Both are inferior to ABB in my humble opinion - but not by much.

James Burton It's fucking great. Keith's swipe at Jagger on 'You Don't Move Me' is the standout track for me. Just a shame about the shitty drum sound throughout - those toms are too highly tuned. Main Offender rocks also, although not as much as 'Talk'.

VoodooChilesGayDad The album is unpretentious rock and roll. A few of the stand out tracks for me are Make No Mistake, Struggle, Big Enough and It Means Alot.

Bob Tamp Talk is Cheap is a must have for any stones fan. It probably contains Keith's best ballad ever LOCKED AWAY.
a real gem

Soldatti It's the second best solo album after Wandering Spirit.
I'm not a fan of Main Offender, not great ideas and very repetitive.
October 16th, 2005 11:44 PM
texile i listened to it all the time when i came out....dirty work had been such a tragedy and i was getting my stones fix with keith.....
but if you take talk's best (make no mistake, i wish)
they can't compete with spirit's best (out of focus, don't tear me up, wandering spirit etc..)
which proves what i've always beleived - jagger at his worst is hideous (boss, primitive, goddess) but when he's on fire ....keith - even at his best - needs mick more than the other way around...

Bloozehound Voodoo Lounge is the only Stones album of the last 20 years that I like better than Talk and Main Offender

I'm all about the winos
October 16th, 2005 11:56 PM
exile I dont like keiths singing mostly.
Take it so hard was good but I think Keith should stick to guitar

ditto- even though I go back and forth on this sometimes and will place Talk Is Cheap above Wandering Spirit. Always thought Main Offender was a big disappointment and vastly overrated on this board.
