Sophie Dahl Plans London Debut in Vagina Monologues
LONDON (Reuters) - Model Sophie Dahl is to make her acting debut on London's West End in Eve Ensler's ``The Vagina Monologues.''
The British supermodel, who was recently linked romantically in the media with Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, takes up a role previously filled by Jagger's ex, Texan model Jerry Hall.
Dahl will open the show on October 23 in its new venue at the Arts Theater on London's Leicester Square, the show's publicist said on Friday.
She will appear in a cast with Miriam Margolyes, who returns to the stage before filming ``Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets,'' and Sian Phillips.
Ensler's smash hit, based on interviews with women of different ages and nationalities, has shocked and delighted audiences from New York to Paris.
It's off-Broadway run won Ensler a Drama Desk Award nomination and in 1997 it won an Obie Award.
Charity performances in London in 1999 and New York earlier this year attracted a Who's Who of the British and American entertainment worlds.
The play's current London season has been extended after a successful a four-month run at the New Ambassador Theater where the cast included Dannii Minogue, younger sibling of Australian pop diva Kylie, TV presenter Mariella Frostrup, British comedian Jenny Eclair and Ensler herself.
Last December French designer Yves Saint Laurent was forced by Britain's Advertising Standards Authority to remove ''sexually suggestive'' billboards featuring a naked Dahl.
The adverts, for Opium perfume, triggered 730 complaints to the advertising watchdog that labeled them as ``offensive, degrading and unsuitable in a public place.''
Dahl, said to be aged 24 by her agent, was famously discovered at 19 by eccentric stylist Isabella Blow and went on to become a sought-after, voluptuous size 14 catwalk model with 38DD bust.
